"Before I received the money, I was scared that I would be sent out of my rental house any day due to delayed rent payments. I knew I could not raise that particular month's rent as well and that is what worried me the most. With the rent now cleared, I am at ease and more peaceful."

"It was six o'clock in the morning I received a message on my phone from GiveDirectly, on reading it the feeling was unusual, excitement was very high and could not hold the happiness but had to shout calling the name of my wife who was already awake and at then she was busy preparing our breakfast. What I felt would be compared to what someone could feel in heaven. It was my first time in my entire life to be in possession of such a huge amount of money. Not only receiving the money in my phone but also the fact that the money was mine together with my family was believable. I can not remember taking breakfast nor any other meal but all I know is that I was full the whole of that day. We called for a group meeting where all the members from the initially formed group met on trial to discuss how we will pick the project but all we could do over that meeting was laughing as we stare at the promising sky. We pray and praised and thanked God for the great provision through GiveDirectly and all along it has been our prayer that GiveDirectly may have a long life so that it may continue with the life-transforming projects."

"My usual day begins at 4:00 AM when I wake up and get ready for the days' work. My work involves assisting conductors to fill their vehicles with passengers, and calling out passengers to board these vehicles. I do this for a few hours in the morning up to 9:00 AM. I only work at rush hour. From there, I head back to my neighbourhood to hang around with my friends until evening, when i head back to my house. I prepare and take dinner, and then I go to bed waiting for the next day's job. In my free time, I enjoy swimming and watching action movies."

"It has been a real struggle to raise children with limited resources. Receiving this money therefore means am being enabled to provide basic necessities to my children with much ease. Currently, I am planning to open up a shop business within the village. This way, I will earn adequate income mainly because there is no single shop around and people are in most cases forced to walk kilometers away to buy household commodities. I will capitalize on the current situation around and improve my family's livelihood. I'd love my children to be proud of me someday."

"The biggest hardship am facing in life is lack of proper source of income. I depend on sand harvesting which is seasonal. During rainy season, the level of water in the river rises and nobody can scoop sand as there is risk of drowning. Since I have no other way of getting money, it becomes very difficult to buy food, clothes and meet medical bills for my family."
