"My husband passed on in 2007 and at that time my children were still young.Since his demise,I have had to struggle on my own to provide all the basic needs and other costs that my family needs.I have children in secondary school and University.Raising their fees is ahuge struggle for me because I have no source of income except casual jobs e.g harvesting, weeding.I must struggle though because I would want to see my children get the right education so that they can be independent and support me as well in old age. This has been the biggest hardship I have faced"

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I feel so proud and happy because I have a house which is the greatest achievement I have ever had in life. Everyone in the village used to talk ill of us, and they believed we would never own a house. I'm so happy I managed to put to shame those who used to look down upon me and thought I'd never own a house in my life."

"Everyone in the village seemed to be exited, people were moving in and out of the village early in the morning which was unusual and kept me wondering. Suspeciously, I decided to check the phone and to my surprise, I had received money from GiveDirectly. I couldn't believe it and I had to give my spouse the phone to check the message, and he confirmed we had received money from GD. We thanked God for the gift, I stayed calm, ensured my family had their breakfast then I left to the Mpesa agent to withdraw the money."

"My spouse had traveled to her matrimonial home with the transfer phone and sim to take care of her ailing brother, so I didn't know when the money was sent. I only heard the news from my friends. Later I called the spouse to check whether she had received the money, and she confirmed to me that she already received it. I felt happy and the first thing I told her was to send me some cash so that I could also go check on her ailing brother whom she was taking care of."

"My top concern is achieving my ambitions because until now I still don't see the light at the end of the tunnel but am still hopeful that I will achieve my goals so that I can live my life the way I want it. Secondly, am worried of my future family. Whether I will be able to provide for the as the breadwinner and meet all their needs. I want my family to live a better life than mine. Lastly, unemployment is another concern because without a job it's very hard to sustain myself and even meet daily needs and therefore I hope at no point I won't be fully unemployed. "

"I prioritize like that because rent has been a challenge to me. The kind of work am doing sometimes it's not easy to save enough for house rent because I get small income so with this money I will be able to pay part of my monthly rent so that I can have piece of mind. Secondly, I will use this money to start a business of clothes and shoes so that I can have a stable income to sustain myself and my life can change for the better. Lastly, I will use some of the money to buy food and other household shopping that I have not been able to afford frequently. This will also help me to help others people who need my support."
