How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed because my children who had dropped out of college due to lack of fee managed to resume their classes and I now believe they will be empowered to become better people in future. I also managed to start a cereals business which I can rely on as a source of income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give Directly enabled me to come out of poverty because I managed to do things I could not do on my own without any monetary assistance and I am now self dependent being that I started a cereal business and believes it will earn me daily income.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on paying college fees for my two children who were taking artisan courses on dress making and welding but had dropped out of their various learning institutions due to fee arrears. I am glad I cleared the outstanding fee and now will at least have something to rely on in future once they finish their training. I also bought a dairy cow which I believe in the near future will be giving us milk and as a result we wont be taking black tea anymore. The remaining part of my transfer was spent on buying school uniforms for my children in primary school because the ones they had were already worn out.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face right now is lack of a sustainable source of income. Ever since my spouse died I have been the sole breadwinner but the only work I get are casual jobs which hardly pay enough wages to comfortably provide for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is around midday. I usually get to relax after working the whole morning while preparing lunch and then eating it. Whenever I am eating I always feel very happy.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my son who is sitting for his class 8 exams can stay in school. I was really wondering how I would get money to pay his school fees but now I will no longer worry as I will use the transfers to clear his fee arrears.
