Benjamin
received a $493 second payment.
"I spend part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to clear the outstanding balance that I had. It costed me 20,000 Ksh. I am so happy because this could have taken me longer to get such amount of money. I used the rest to rest a piece of land. Ploughed it and planted potatoes. This will be a source of income for the family because I will sell the produce to earn an income. I also bought food for the family."

Faith
received a $493 second payment.
"I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly to build a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small grass thatched house which was leaking from inside. The rest of the money I paid school fees for my spouse who was pursuing a course at the College. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard. It has enabled us to own a decent house which could not have been possible soon."

Alice
received a $493 second payment.
"I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a Dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it's so costly for me because I do not have a continuous source of income. I also bought a water tank for storing clear water for drinking and also for domestic use. Finally I bought food for the family because we don't have enough in store during that time. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be better."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to start business. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

Joseph
received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was so costly for me because I do not have a continuous source of income. I depend on small scale farming to earn income. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family including paying school fees for my children in various schools. There was no extra money to saved so that I can buy a dairy cow. I also used to do casual jobs in the village, the amount of money that I get through this is also so small. Currently I have a dairy cow and I no longer buy milk. I save the money that I could have used to buy milk for other basic household needs. I am so grateful for the support, GiveDirectly has changed our living standard and it's now better compared to when we had not received the transfers."

Kahindi
received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I had not received my transfer in that, I was able to construct two two-roomed houses one for my parent and the other for myself and my brothers since used to stay in the same house with our parents. Also, we now have enough food for the family as we used to depend on my father who is temporary casual labour. In some instances, we could go without food or even borrow from our neighbours when my father fails to secure a job."

Dija
enrolled.
"I started living in this hut two years ago when my former house developed severe cracks and it was about to fall. Since then we have been keeping some funds to build our house. This money now has given us a huge boost to make sure the house is built faster than we anticipated.
The other money will go towards purchasing good beddings, mattress and other basic needs that we lack as a family. My husband clothes were also stolen when we were in the other house. This money has also given us a chance to purchase some clothes for us and the children."

Hawa

"I am in a polygamous marriage and the challenge is that there is less money available for me since I live alone. I have always had the desire to have a comfortable home to my liking but money was not allowing. Hence, my main problem is the need to have a better house than the one I have for storing my produce after harvesting."

Esther
received a $493 second payment.
"GiveDirectly is doing well in numerous ways by assisting the extremely poor households in my community. I was able to pay fees and set aside some cash for my second child. I don't see anything that is doing well."
