"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought three goats. This is the best investment on our area since we have a big land for grassing. I have always wished to start this project of rearing goats but since I didn't had capital it was not easy. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption and the extra we sell it to buy other basic household items. I didn't had money to start this project. My father owns big farm, I found it wise to invest on this farm. One of the things that made me rear goats is that, it multiply faster. They give birth twice per year. I will sell them at some point to buy a daily cow. When there is an emergency it's easy to sell them and sort it out without much struggle. I am so grateful for the support because my wish has been fulfilled."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better and spacious house for my children. They used to live in a small grass thatched house which was leaking from inside. The house was very old and could fall down anytime. I do small business but the amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family including paying school fees for my children. I didn't had extra money to buy building materials to build a better house for them. This was always my wish to build them a better house where they can sleep well and do their homework. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to fulfill this. Currently they have a spacious house where they can do there homework and study without any problems. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled us to live a better life than before."

"My life is currently different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to build a spacious house for my family. Due to this, I am no longer afraid to receive any visitor as I know that they will have a place to sleep in comfortably. Also, I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. I believe that it will be calving very soon and I will be able to earn some income through the sell of milk."

"When I received my second transfer, I spent around KES 45000 to complete building a house for my son and to also build a spacious kitchen. I decided to build an iron-roofed spacious kitchen since the one I had was old and grass thatched. Getting grass to use in replacing the old ones is a tedious and hard task as they're no longer easily available. I spent the remaining amount on food and to buy two pairs of decent clothes for my two sons and myself."

"My ambition is to be financially stable and take up more responsibility for my family. I work as a casual labour who works in house construction. My wife is a stay at home mother taking care of our four children. Being financially stable will mean I am able to be pay school fees for my children and even start up a business. The Give Directly transfer will be of help because I will use it to pay for school fees and start poultry farming by buying 20 chicken to start of, for eggs as well as selling them. This will add to my family's income."

"My ambition is to be a successful gospel musician. I have been told I have a talent in singing and I want to make use of it in future. Having a nice song with good production and video requires capital which o don't have. So I am forced to put my dreams aside and focus on how I can get an income to support my family. This transfer will first be used in ensuring all the basic needs in my household are met. That includes building a better house since the one we currently live in is small, also my first born is almost joining school and I have to pay school fees to ensure he starts off well for his future. After all these needs are met then I will embark on my singing caterer."

"Abou three years ago,I fell ill.It is something that came gradually and at first I ignored it .With time,it advanced and got to a point where I was always very weak and could hardly perform any work around the homestead. My children took me to a hospital in town in 2020 where it was discovered that I had an irregular heartbeat (Arrhythmia),and for my particular case it was a slow heartbeat.I was booked in for an expensive surgery where a pacemaker was put.The total cost of the treatment was Sh 400,000.You can imagine where a peasant farmer,a widow, could get this amount from.My health insurance covered half the amount and we raised the rest by selling all the livestock that my late husband left me.Even though I am enroute to recovery,I still cannot work and this means I fully depend on my children to provide.I also do not have any other assets aside from this land which is quite unproductive. Not being able to work to meet my day to day needs has been the biggest hardship I have faced"

"I spend part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it's so costly for me. This project will cut the cost of buying milk. I was not feeling and I was admitted at the hospital. I used the rest to pay hospital bills. I am so happy because GiveDirectly came to my rescue on time. I didn't had any source of income. If not for GiveDirectly I wouldn't have reach this far. Thank you so much much for the immense support."
