"My life is no different than how it would have been because I managed to start a kiosk business which I am now solely depending on it for my daily bread. Before then I used to be a casual laborer and the little I could earn was too little for my family's upkeep. Currently, life has been so smooth because the business is doing so well with fruitful returns. Also, the fact that I managed to complete my house brought peace in my life and I consider myself blessed. Also, the bicycle that I purchased has made my life easier becasue it was so tiresome carrying the water using my own hands not forgetting the distance."

"We lead a better standard of living after receiving the transfer. This is because we have more comfortable seats and adequate food items. Also, we look forward to a more promising future when we shall be getting income by leasing out our van. I was worried that no one would hire our vehicle had we not made the vital repairs and refurbishment. We shall be making some savings that would be used to fund developmental projects and other basic demands. Indeed, GiveDirectly came to our rescue when we needed it the most, during this period of the Covid-19 pandemic."

"I spent 105 USD of my second transfer on purchasing some livestock as an investment to be sold in the future while educating my other children. Also, we cleared fee arrears totaling up to 120 USD that had accumulated when educating one of my children who has just completed grade 12. This would ensure she gets ample study unlike before when she used to waste lots of time coming home to collect the pending amount, but we had none. Besides, we used 180 USD on building an extra house where our children would sleep in since they had none yet they are young adults who need some privacy. We used the remaining amount on purchasing food items to allow us to make some savings from my business of trading on milk. Before receipt of GiveDirectly funds, I would spend all the profits I get from the business on feeding my family, hence making no savings."

"Lack of finances is my biggest worry. I really want to build a bigger and better house because my first born is now 5 years old and my second born is 3 years old. These children will soon want to have their privacy which is not available in my current house. I have not been able to fulfil this need because I rely on casual labor in a farm that is 10 kilometres away and I earn KSH 200 per day. This amount is only enough to cater for our food. I am now hopeful that I will be able to accomplish my dream once I receive my transfers."

"My biggest worry at the moment is lack of finances. The fact that crops have been failing for the past 6 years as a result of fall armyworm in our area has made it even more difficult to provide food for our families. I am forced to buy maize from other areas so that my family can eat. 2 kilograms of maize has constantly been rising as a result of high demand and currently, we are buying them at 90 shillings. To get this amount, I have to work extra hard in looking for casual labor such as taking other peoples cows to nearby markets for sale"
