Benard
received a $528 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if never I received the transfer in that I have built a house and bought a dairy cow. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the small amount that I get is only enough for the basic needs. It could have taken me years to save enough to build a house."

Mercy
received a $528 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I have built a house. We used to live in a small house with my family and I had always wished to build a better one but because I did not have money it was so hard for me. Currently, we lived in a decent and spacious house."

Ben
received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"Before this program was launched in my area, I had no stable source of income and mostly relied on occasional jobs that were provided by the group to sustain its jobless members. The biggest problem I faced as a jobless father and husband was paying my rent on time. I do not remember any month that went by without me having issues with my landlord for failing to pay the rent on time. These transfers have been a blessing in my life because they have enabled me to provide for my family even when I have no source of income. I have also enjoyed the peace that has reigned between my landlord and I over the past year because I have never failed to pay him on time."

"The moment I received my money I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. I remember it was very early in the morning when I heard a message from my phone I felt so happy when I checked it. I knew I would be able to build a better house for my family."

Sofia
received a $528 second payment.
"I am now owning livestock which I purchased through this transfer, three bulls and a heifer, that I didn't have. Besides them being valuable living assets to me, the bulls will be helping me in ploughing my farm effectively. I am expecting to get a good harvest now that I will be doing my farming early and timely unlike before when I was using hoes which were not productive with larger acreage. Apart from this, I am also sleeping comfortably on a wooden bed and a new mattress having replaced the old and worn out beddings that I used for many years. Also, I have cleared my children's school fees and now they are comfortable in school."

Stella
received a $528 second payment.
"My life has greatly changed since I received my transfers. It is always my happiness to see my family happy and healthy thus I always struggle to put a meal on the table and bring in more assets that we can lean on as a family during hard times. When I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, I spend part of it on my family wellness. I bought a cow that I look at it as an added asset and I believe soon it will calve thus give us milk for both household consumption and sales. I am happy that this has given me a peaceful mind in that It has reduced my thinking of what to lean on in case of a financial crisis. In addition, I spent some money on my son's school fees. I am at peace now since he will have a humble time for his studies and be allowed to sit for the exam. I am happy that GiveDirectly has improved our family."

"I had received a message notification early in the morning that particular day but being illiterate, I had to seek assistance from my helper. I sent someone to call her, and when she came, she read the message and informed me that I had finally received my first transfer. I was very happy and began my day celebrating together with my family which was one of the unforgettable days in my entire life."

Selina
received a $528 second payment.
"Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I majorly depended on subsistence farming only, which has not been doing well due to unpredictable rainfall patterns. However, my life is currently different because I am now self-employed. I managed to start a food kiosk and a grocery shop from which I am earning a good income daily. This income has even enabled me to save enough money to buy building materials to build a new house for my family. I am also paying school fees for my children who are in high school. Apart from the business, I also own two cows which I am currently keeping in my homestead. I know these cows will reproduce and supply milk for my business and sell the surplus. Besides, they are my assets which I can readily rely on them in case of a financial problem."

Salima
received a $528 second payment.
"My life is currently different because, through these transfers, I have been able to provide for my family adequately without much struggle. Putting food on the table was a real struggle, we could at times stay without food since I lacked the money to buy enough for the family. We never lacked anything good ever since receiving this transfer. Apart from this, I also managed to buy seven goats which I am currently keeping in my homestead. If I was to buy them at my own cost, for sure I couldn't have managed to acquire any of these. I am expecting them to reproduce and have many of them. I can sell the offspring as they multiply to help me in case of any financial problem."
