Kache
received a $528 second payment.
"I am now in the process of building a new house through this money. I have been able to purchase enough iron sheets, building poles and also paying the mason for his job. I am now upgrading to a new iron-roofed house. I also bought a pair of oxen which will help me in my farming. I will no longer be hiring from the neighbours during the planting season. I am also expecting to plough my whole acreage timely for a better harvest. The transfer has also enabled me to effectively fulfil my family's basic needs such as foodstuffs and clothing for my children. Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I was struggling to provide for my family. But ever since receiving this money, we have never lacked food."

Lydia
received a $528 second payment.
"The biggest difference is that I am now hopeful of living in my own home. Through the transfers I got from Give Directly I have already bought the necessary building materials. Initially, I only used to depend on casual jobs. The money I got from these jobs was enough to buy basic needs. I used to save nothing towards this goal therefore there were slim chances of establishing my home. I have also started tailoring business and I see myself increasing the level of revenue."

Felix
received a $40 fifteenth payment.
"I started a small business selling bulbs and other electricals as an extra source of income when I started receiving the transfers. The business not yet stable enough, therefore, I have not been able to rent a stall, hence operating the business in a hardware owned by a friend of mine. I have to pay him for using his space and also has to operate during his timelines as the owner of the shop which affect the business. My plan is to expand the business by adding more stock and renting a shop where I can operate the business on my own terms."

received a $253 second payment.
"I expect to have improved my life by adding an income activity to support my farming. I will be running a spare parts shop for motorcycle. I am skilled in repairing the motorcycles and this means I can easily run it. I hope to grow it and make it bigger to the extent that I get to start selling petroleum products."

Jenipher
received a $528 second payment.
"My life is currently different because the transfer has enabled me to buy a motorcycle which has now become a source of income to us. My husband had been employed to provide the taxi services and the income was little since he was to give a portion to the owner. It couldn't even cover for our household needs. I am happy that this motorcycle is giving us enough money to fulfil our family's needs effectively. Besides, I also managed to buy some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles and nails to build an extension of a single room to accommodate my children. They no longer have to seek shelter from neighbours at night."

Tobias
received a $40 fifteenth payment.
"Right now, I am living in a better house. The one I used to live in a small house next to the river in my area. It was not safe for my family and I used to live in fear of attacks since the area was very insecure. With the transfers, I was able to move into a better house and in a safe place. I no longer have the fear I used to have and I am at peace because I know I am secured. Thanks to GD for changing my life."

Alex
received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"My plan for the transfers is to continue boosting my water business by buying a tank. Currently, I supply water through a kiosk but I rely on county Government water. Anytime there is a shortage, it really affects my business so I plan to buy a tank to store water. This will help when there is a water shortage because I will still have water to supply."

Eucabeth
received a $528 second payment.
"I would not have made it to owning a dairy cow. I would still be suffering having to buy milk at a very high cost. I am happier and my resources that would have gone to buying milk are now going to savings. I have joined a merry go round where I saved Ksh 3000 per month. This is the biggest difference in my life. If I never received these transfers, I would not have been able to save in a merry go round group because the little I would get would all go into providing foodstuffs including milk for the family."

Regina
received a $40 fifteenth payment.
"I am a hairdresser and currently working from home so that I can manage to take care of my little baby. It is not easy having customers come to your house for hairdressing services because here, there are no hairdressing equipment that may be required, so they prefer to go to the salon. To ensure I benefit from this talent, I am planning to open my own salon with most of the hairdressing equipment so that I can increase my customer base. I do not want to be employed at another salon because that will force me to pay a commission for every job I do which will affect my daily earnings."

Zosi
received a $528 second payment.
"The transfer has enabled me to achieve many things that I would not have managed to buy at my own cost. Firstly, I now have livestock in my homestead, a pair of oxen which will help me to plough my farm on time and three goats. I am expecting my farming to change and have a good harvest unlike the other seasons when I was using hoes. I was also able to take my son to college which I would have been challenging considering my low financial status. Lastly, I was able to change my beddings by purchasing new beddings which include a new mattress and a new bed and replaced the old traditional bed and worn out mats that I have been using for years."
