"My husband and I never went to school and this has negatively impacted our life. There is no way we can get quality jobs and the much we can offer is casual labour. It is hard to earn enough from these jobs thus making it difficult to take care of our children. The most hurtful thing is that I cannot even raise 1400 shillings for their academics. I believe all this suffering is as a result of illiteracy which I consider my biggest hardship."

"Providing for my family is quite a challenge. This is as a result of not having a reliable source of income since I depend on charcoal burning. This earns me less than 1000 shillings a month, an amount that is supposed to cater for 6 children. In an ideal scenario is it possible to operate on such a budget? Therefore I have to overlook other needs to meet the most sensitive ones. In regard to this we don't even have beddings and we use the traditional bed that is made of sisal reeds. My children have never slept on a mattress ever since they were born. All these struggles are attributed to financial insufficiency which is my biggest hardship."

"When I bought a dairy cow. I reduced the number of menial jobs that I had been doing, working for others in order to put food on the table. Instead of toiling to get money for milk and other foodstuffs, I have started to produce the milk on my farm from the dairy cow. I also sell part of the milk and use it to buy other foodstuffs that we need as a household. Having an income is a path that has saved me. My life is better now with cattle than before. I f I had not received the money from GiveDirectly, I would still be suffering having to work for other people."
