"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I could not have paid the school fees for my daughter on time. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the money I could get was so small and could not gather for all the basic needs."

Elias
received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"My biggest desire was to construct a house back in my rural home as I do not have one at the moment which prevents me from frequently visiting my parents because I do not have a place to sleep when I visit. Ever since I started receiving these transfers, I have been purchasing the required construction materials which I intend to use in the project. I have not purchased all the required materials which I hope I will soon through the project hence no new plans."

Edna
received a $526 second payment.
"I have seen a great difference in my life since GiveDirectly came. I was always wondering when I will ever rear my own cow which is now a reality. We used to walk long distances to fetch firewood from the forest so that we can sell to earn some income but currently we are no longer doing that after establishing other great projects to feed our family."

Richard
received a $23 twenty-third payment.
"My expectation in the near future is to have hybrid cows for rearing. Hybrid cows such as Friesian breed of cows are a good producers of milk. Rearing them will mean I will have a constant source of income from the sale of milk in the future and I will have an extra activity to do apart from subsistence farming. This will be a source of income for my family. The income will meet household needs and one won't neccessrily need to do so much of casual jobs."
