"My expectation in the near future is to ensure that we live a better life by having sufficient food for my family. Currently, we are sometimes forced to depend on my children for some of these necessities and I want to change this by ensuring that I plant my own food which I will sell some and consume some. Now that age is catching up, there little strength to do what I sed to do. The transfer has and hopefully will continue helping me do my role as the head of the family."

"The biggest challenge for most girls in rural communities in Kenya is early pregnancy and subsequently early/forced marriages. My story was no different; I got pregnant at a tender age of 16 years while I was about to sit for my final exams in primary school. I had no other choice other than to drop out of school and forcefully enter into marriage. This meant that my dreams and desires of having better future through education was coming to an end, and true to that, 7 years into marriage, I have struggled to support my family. There are limited employment opportunities for people like us who have low schooling levels. Therefore, not being able to support my family and being over reliance on my husband has been the biggest hardship in my life."

"I expect my life in the next six months to have greatly changed. I expect to have invested more in farming thus will engage more in my piece of land than on hard and low paying casual jobs I currently do. I expect good crops on the farm thus will be hopeful of having a better harvest which translates to enough food in our family and surpluses to sell to meet other needs."

"Receiving this money means I can finally own a home. My house was destroyed by heavy rains last year forcing me to spend many cold nights in a very poor shade yet I had been diagnosed with chronic tuberculosis. I plan to spend the first transfer on building a new house while the second will go into rearing livestock that will serve as financial security for the future."
