"My life would be different if I had enough piece of land to grow maize for subsistence and even better if our climatic conditions were conducive enough to sustain my farming. All this is wishful thinking because we live in an ASAL area synonymous with rocky terrain which is bad for farming. This has frustrated my efforts to provide food for my family and generate income for other basic needs. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life. In my community, going to bed on a full stomach is so underrated! Since we've never grown maize for the past one year, most families rely on black tea and sweet potatoes for food while others sleep hungry. We have been overdoing this and my big worry is that children stand the risk of getting malnourished."

"Access to clean and safe water for drinking is a great challenge in my community. We are forced to compete with domestic animals for the same source of water in stagnant water pans which in any case, pose serious health hazards to the community especially children. My worry is that my children may contract water borne relates illnesses yet I do not have a source of income to cushon me against such health uncertainties. This makes life hard."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I have settled all the debts which we had as a family. Paying off these debts has enabled us repossess our two pieces of land from the money lender. Secondly, I have owned household Items that I didn't have before like a bed and a mattress. Prior to receiving this cash transfer, I had no hope of paying off the debts and it would have taken me over two years to recovere just one piece of land."

"Having recieved this money, I was in position to acquire an ox that has enabled me to plough and plant in time. I expect increased yields this time around for supporting me family. Previously, I used to plough in other people's farms in exchange of their oxen. This often delayed my planting since I was given oxen when it's out of season that resulted to poor harvest, because the oxen owners first prioritized their farms before they give out the oxen."
