"It has always been my desire to have a stable source of income. At the moment, my husband is just staying at home after losing his job due to health-related issues and raising our children has not been easy. I, therefore, intend to venture into goat rearing. This is something that does very well in our region and I believe this will elevate our living conditions from the current deplorable state. Currently, we are struggling to provide basic necessities like food, clothing, and education for our children and as a parent, it is shameful to fail to sustain the needs of the family. Additionally, I intend to use part of the transfers to seek treatment for my husband and I believe restoring his health will be a great boost to the family in terms of support."

"Not having adequate resources has been the biggest hardship in my life. As a result, I haven't been able to get appropriate medical attention and consequently, I have not had a child for all those years in marriage. This even led my husband into marrying another woman who later left him, 5 children, thus transferring all the burden of caring to me. These children are in school, and with limited resources, it has been extremely difficult to sustain their needs."

"My desire is to sleep in a warmer house. My current grass roofed house is leaking and is getting colder especially during rainy seasons like now. My new corrugated iron roofed house will cost $220 of my first transfer. I also want to purchase a barbed wire for $55 so as to paddock my livestock farm."

"There is really a big difference in comparison to the life I am living now and how it would have been without the transfers. My life has improved a lot and many things that I own now would not have been there. I managed to buy livestock, construct a new house, furnish it up and also the foodstuff is now available in our household all times."

I decided to check who could ave sent the message. Upon checking, I realized it was an mpesa message from GD. I was very happy and immediately started celebrating."

"In the next six months, my life will have changed from how it is currently. I am optimistic that I will have expanded my business. Due to this, I will be able to meet most of our needs on time. My children will not be missing their classes as a result of being sent back home to collect school fees since I will be paying them on time. With this, their grades in school will improve and they will be able to further their studies to the tertiary level."

"Since I have been longing to have my own permanent house, having my own has made my daily life to be totally different. My life has been so miserable since I got married because of the condition of the house. It was just a small traditional hut with some weak walls which had holes all over and a leaky roof. Life during the winter seasons has never been good. We could not afford to sleep because we were rained on, we really had no difference with someone who sleeps under a tree. It is now a great relief because u never thought I will own one anytime soon. We are now sleeping comfortably with my family and I feel we are safe compared to the previous one. I am currently enjoying my marriage ever since I got the new decent house courtesy to GiveDirectly."

"In the next six months, I believe that I would have started harvesting crops which I am yet to plant soon. I am thinking of planting potatoes and beans which takes a shorter period to harvest. There is a high demand for this produce and I believe that it will earn me good money that will enable me to pay school fees for my children."
