"The biggest challenge I have faced in my life is employment. I am a stay at home mum and my husband is not yet fully employed with the government as a teacher and we rely on the little amount he gets as a teacher at Tengecha boys to feed my family."

"Old age. My wife and I stay with our two grandchildren since their parents work far away. We cannot till the land and provide for them because of our age. Getting equipment to be used to help us toll the land is also costly."

"The biggest hardship that I face is lack of food. As a single parent I have to find piece work so that I can find food for my family. I do not have a child old enough to help me in finding food this makes it very difficult because sometimes we have little or no food at all."

"I am a livestock keeper. However, I have to lease the land where I can graze them at a cost of 50 USD per month, because my farm is quite small. I have already began buying a parcel near my compound but I paused due to lack of funds. I get about 20 USD per month from selling milk. My husband is a casual worker earning about 5 USD per day. Cumulatively, the money we get is just enough for food and to lease the grazing land.I plan to spend the money from GiveDirectly to acquire more land closer home, and even grow nappier grass for the animals. As a result, I hope to get about 40 USD per month."
