"I am so grateful to GD for this program. I am a single mother and raising my child all by myself has been a challenge. The money is coming to my rescue. I will build a house with the money because my house is very small and leaks during rainy season.
Food production has been a challenge because I don't use fertilizer. I lack money to buy fertilizer and I will buy fertilizer in preparation of the next growing season. Part of the money will also be used to buy some bags of maize."

"The biggest hardship we have faced in our family is lack of stable income. The farm we inherit from our parents is quite small hence cannot produce enough for family consumption and surplus. So the income from the casual jobs we do goes to purchasing food mainly."

"Before the passing on of my mother in law, I use to get more time to work and get more income. She passed on one year ago. She used to help me take care of my five children as I fend for them. I have young children whom I cannot leave alone forcing me to spend most of my time in the compound. I had to close down my shop back in town. This has greatly affected my income. I now fully depend on my husband who does casual jobs in town. Lack of enough money to cater for the family's needs is therefore what has been my biggest hardship."

"Currently, I work as a farmer and I do produce cassava but on a small scale. This has not been enough for my customers since in most cases I fail to supply them, something that has resulted in the loss of my potential buyers. My desire has been to upscale my farming to produce the cassava on large scale but this has not been possible due to inadequate financial resources. Receiving this money means realizing my dream since I Intend to spend utmost $500 of my transfers to buy oxen and an ox-plough as well as preparing my 6 acres. This will assure me of much profit after the production because there is the availability of customers who have been contacting me. On the other hand, I will spend the remaining amount to buy 3 indigenous dairy cows that will produce milk for my household consumption and also to sell the surplus to get extra income for my family."

"The biggest hardship that I have faced in my life is that of not having a comfortable place to sleep. My husband is polygamous so when he comes sometimes we sleep on the verandah."

received a $491 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house. I used to live in a small grass thatched house which was leaking from inside. This was so challenging especially during the rainy season. When I received the second transfer I felt it's so worth to compete the construction of a house which I started using the previous transfer. Currently we live in a better spacious house. Before my family were exposed to cold, I was so worried because I didn't want them to get sick. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I do not have a continuous source of income to enable me buy building materials. Givedirectly has changed our living standard. My children are no longer exposed to cold and I no longer fear to welcome visitors to my house. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for coming through our live has really changed."
