How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was able to construct a more permanent house made of timber walls for my family using the transfer. It is my wish to cement its floors and make them more permanent. I have two traditional cows and their milk production is low. Because of this, I am planning to sell them and acquire an exotic breed that produces more milk which I can sell some to earn an income after setting aside some for our consumption
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly decided to give us money for free without needing anything in return and to top it up, their officers were so polite and treated everyone equally. With this money, we were able to transform our lives for the better. I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I started construction of a more permanent spacious house for my family using my first transfer and upon receiving the second one, I decided to continue with the construction work and spent the remaining 17000 KES on food and clothes. I spent KES 36000 on the purchase of ballast, sand, gravel and paid the transportation fee. I am glad that I was able to achieve all this though it is unfortunate that I was not able to cement the floors of this house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy. I remember it was around 10 am. I was taking care of my cows. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. When I checked it out I couldn't believe my eyes. It was message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such amount of money. I immediately inform my family members and the all celebrated with lots of joy. I knew I would be able to build a better house for my family. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased all the materials ready to cement the floor of my house. We being exposed to dusty particals. I had always wished to cement the floor but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and dairy farming. This earns me an income but due to other family basic needs, I was not able to save some money. Cleaning a mud floor was not easy. It needs to be smeared with a cow dung weekly to stop the dust. When I received the transfer felt so happy. Currently I have purchased all the materials ready, I am waiting for the second transfer to start the process of cementing. I am so happy because I know we will not be exposed go dust again. Cleaning the floor will be much easier. My spouse will have an easy time to do this job. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money on purchasing building materials ready to cement the floor of my house. We live in a dusty floor and we are being exposed to dusty particals. I plough my farm and bought seeds. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my family members. I am so happy for the support because GiveDirectly has improved our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a house that's not yet built to completion. I will use the money sent in the first transfer to cement the floor, seal the walls because of the cold and paint the walls. With my second transfer, I will add a dairy cow that goes for 00 dollars to supplement milk production. This money therefore, will mean a lot to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the morning because I wake up healthy and ready to start the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Old age. My wife and I stay with our two grandchildren since their parents work far away. We cannot till the land and provide for them because of our age. Getting equipment to be used to help us toll the land is also costly.
