How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goal that I didn't had before I received the transfer was on building a better house and to purchase a dairy cow.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better house and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to build a better and spacious house for my family. I paid school fees for my children in various schools. They were able to study well without being sent home. I purchased a heifer at the cost of KES 27,000. I will get enough milk for the family when it reproduce in the next few months. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at 9 am when I was at my working station when I heard my phone vibrating loudly, I was a bit hesitant in checking my phone because I thought maybe it was a message from my children's school reminding me to pay for the school fees arrears, my workmate told me that he had received cash from GiveDirectly that morning because he too was registered, that was when I rushed to check the message that was in my phone, I was so overjoyed to confirm that I too had received the money, we all celebrated throughout the day with endless touches of laughter.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am a fulfilled parent because I have cleared the school fees arrears for my two children who are schooling, In addition to that I now own a dairy cow that will be producing milk for us, For the first time in a long time we ate a well-balanced diet, GiveDirectly has changed my life in a big way, I believe that the money was God sent because it came in the right time of need when we needed it most. I am grateful for the support that impacted our lives positively.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I work as a security guard in the nearby primary school, my income is very little to cater for all my needs, at some point I had to sell my only cow so has to cater for the school fees needs of my children, this was the toughest decision to make but I had no choice, therefore, when I received my transfer I decided to clear the school fees arrears of KES 6000, I then bought a dairy cow worth KES 30,000 so that I could cut down on the cost of buying milk daily, I am glad that GiveDirectly has lifted my burden off my shoulder.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have one cow only. I would like to buy another one dairy cow. This dairy cow will help me pay for my children school fees. I expect to cost around 300 dollars. I also intend to buy maize for my family. I have some in the farm but they have been affected by diseases and likely not to do well.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when i come back from job and have found something to eat with my family. It brings joy to my life to enjoy dinner with my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my family is hunger. Our area is easily affected by drought. The little crops we grow in our farm does not do well. We used to depend on maize as stable food and also for commercial but for the past 5 year it has been a challenge due to drought and diseases.
