How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had a new goal of constructing a modern house since the one we had was small and had always thought of building a big one but because of financial constraints I couldn't achieve this.Once I received my first transfer, I prioritized spending on basic needs and part of it I used to buy some materials for construction. With this second transfer, I will be able to commence construction and hopefully fulfill my wish.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the channeling of money was fair, and even giving unconditional cash transfers allowed each individual to decide on what to spend on. I have no complaints since all the processes were adhered to accordingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my second transfer on the construction of a new modern house. I spent Kshs.30,000 on acquiring the remaining construction materials and paying labor costs. I am happy that it is at its final stages and soon we will be moving in.I am grateful that in future even when I have visitors I have somewhere decent to host them. With Kshs.20,000 I spent in buying the furniture and spent the remaining on buying uniform for my kid.I am so grateful for the huge support from Give directly that was timely.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:33.am. I was on the farm cultivating my crops. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I reluctantly stopped and check out the message. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such amount of money before. I stopped whatever I was doing and went back home. I immediately inform my family members. They all celebrated with joy. I knew I would be able to build a better house. I didn't withdrew the the same day because there were so many people who went to withdrew and the queue was long.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build a spacious house. I bought bricks and sand and build an extension room. We used to live in a small house which could not host all the family comfortably. Whenever my extended family visited me there was no place to sleep. I was taking them to my neighbor house to sleep. This was so risky and lack or privacy. Whenever I had visitors and friends I would host them outside the house. This was so demoralizing and stressful. I have always wished to build a better and spacious house but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that I get is only for consumption. I didn't had another source of income. Currently I have build a extension room. Whenever I have visitors I no longer shy off to welcome them because I have a spacious house to host them. When my family visits me they have a spacious rooms to spent nights. This has build my self esteem. My children have a room for sleeping and doing their assignment, they are no longer exposed to dust particles. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 50,000 of the first transfer to purchase bricks and and. I build an extension rooms. The construction is still on going. I also cement the floor of my house. The house now look decent and it's free from dust. We are no longer exposed to dust particles which might caused respiratory related diseases. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled me to build a better and spacious house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a dream of living in a bricks/cement house, I will therefore budget $700 to construct my house. Also I am passionate in doing dairy farming, I will therefore buy one dairy cow costing $300 to boost my milk production and income. For the remaining $100 I will buy food and clothing's for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Usually 3 Pm EAT is my happiest part of day, this is the time that I am usually done with my household chore. My friends visits me during this time where we have a chat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I never managed to proceed with my education and this has left me depending on farming and casual jobs to feed my family. With the casual jobs I earn little money usually about $2 daily, this is not enough and makes me struggle financially. At times we run short of food and basic needs.
