"My expectation in the near future is to have a successful business in the near future. This will help us as a family to have additional sources of income to help us meet all our needs and pay our children's school fees. We currently depend on my spouse for all these needs and sometimes it takes a toll on him. I want to be a position in a position to help whenever I can."

"Currently, I do not have a house instead I usually sleep in my neighbor's house. I'm planning to save the coming transfers and use them to construct a house. Therefore, in the next six months, I'm hopeful that I'll have constructed a house."

"Adding one dairy cow to the one i have in order to boost my daily income is what this money means to me. I currently depend on selling 3 litres of milk produced by my cow at ksh 30 daily so as to buy food for my four grand children who are orphans. I will use my second transfer to buy a 3000 litre water tank for storing water during rainy seasons thus minimising diseases and infections resulting from drinking dirty water that i usually fetch from open water pans"

"With the current plans to establish a dairy farming unit, I expect to see it's completion in the next six months. We have been participating in the Merry-go-round which we started with other GiveDirectly beneficiaries and in the next few months my turn to receive the contribution will come. This money which will be coming as a lump sum will be directed to sourcing the construction materials for the dairy shed and will also be useful in paying the man power involved in the construction."

Mathews
received a $511 second payment.
"I used to do any available casual job in the village including construction work that was straining just to see my children get their daily basic needs hence saving to obtain household furniture was not a priority then due to inadequate finances. Those were the most stressful days and I didn't afford a source of entertainment to loosen my mind which was making me slowly sinking into depression due to lots of unresolved problems. I bought a television set to be watching with the rest of my family members. Today ,my children are happy because of the entertainment which they lacked and the shame of having to go to the neighbors just to watch is now a thing of the past."

received a $512 second payment.
"I was harvesting sand for the last three years and I didn't like this job because the probability of drowning when the river bank breaks on rainy season was high . During this period, I decided to save money with an intention of owning a motorcycle ( boda boda) since it is a marketable business in my society.Give Directly's transfers came at an opportune time. I topped up my savings with the entire transfers and purchased a brand new motorbike. Today, my proceedings from this business has immensely raise my living standard and boost my asset ownership because I make 500 KES in a daily basis which caters for all this with ease. This is a huge difference Give Directly has made in my life."

Daniel
received a $529 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was so costly for me. I depend on casual jobs in the village to earn an income. The income was so small and was only enough for the basic needs of the family. I could not get extra money to save to buy a cow. I talked with my neighbor at some point and he agreed to give me a dairy cow with a condition that in case of any emergency at his homestead he will sell the cow. My worries began when he came to took back his cow and I was back to the same state of buying milk. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be in a position to buy my own dairy cow. Currently, I no longer buy milk. My family has enough milk and I sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to meet additional basic needs for the family and even pay school fees for my children in school. I am so happy because I own a Dairy cow which has always been my dream."

"I had a sound sleep that night. Later in the morning, I took my phone to check for any new notification. I found a message and I went ahead to check the content. It was a message from Give Directly confirming that I had received money. I felt so happy and I immediately broke the news to my family whom we rejoiced together and planned how best to spend it."

received a $22 eighteenth payment.
"This past farming season, I was able to get a better harvest which I did not have to sell to raise the money to pay for the inputs that I received from One Acre Fund on credit as I used to do before because the transfers took care of that. With another season underway, I hope to get even more produce which I can later sell to raise money for other needs."

Paul
received a $529 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily is that I have built a decent spacious house for my family. We lived in a small house as a family and our comfort was slowly wearing out because of the size of our house. Even though, I operate a small business at the nearby shopping center, my profits were not enough to meet both basic needs to build a house. I had always wished to build a semi-permanent house for my family but couldn't out of scarce resources. Currently, my children have a good place to sleep and to do their private studies without any disturbances. I no longer shy away when I have visitors because I have a decent house and enough space to host them unlike before. I am so much grateful for the support from GiveDirectly because it has greatly changed my family living standards."
