How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With the transfers, I am now a proud owner of a water tank that I use in harvesting rainwater. Due to this, my family now has access to clean water for domestic use most of the time. We only fetch water from the water pans for our livestock and cleaning purposes. Also, I have been able to properly fence my farm and my livestock no longer destroy my crops. Due to this, I am hopeful of increased yields this year since my crops will not be destroyed by my livestock or those of my neighbors. All this would not have been possible had it not have been for GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in uplifting everyone's life in various ways by giving transfers to everyone in the village. There's nothing that I can say that GD did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent some amount to expand my dairy farming. I bought a dairy cow worth KES 37000 as an asset that I can rely on in case of an emergency. I will be using the income from milk sales to pay school fees for my children. Also, I bought some chicken as a way of expanding my poultry project. My family will at times be using eggs as a protein supplement. I cleared a loan od KES 7000 that I had and used the remaining amount to buy food and other household necessities.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Adding one dairy cow to the one i have in order to boost my daily income is what this money means to me. I currently depend on selling 3 litres of milk produced by my cow at ksh 30 daily so as to buy food for my four grand children who are orphans. I will use my second transfer to buy a 3000 litre water tank for storing water during rainy seasons thus minimising diseases and infections resulting from drinking dirty water that i usually fetch from open water pans
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is usually in the evening when i am done with scheduled plans of the day, especially farming and ensuring that my cow gets enough nappier grass and other supplements for more milk production.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a widow, life has been challenging to me after the demise of my daughter five years ago who left behind her 4 children. Fending for the orphans who look up to me has been a struggle since i depend on one cow which produces four litres of milk daily, which i sell 3 litres at ksh 30 per litre and the remaining one litre is left for family consumption. My farm has not been productive for a long time now hence the little i harvest is all left for family consumption and none is left for sale. Providing good education and healthcare for my grandchildren has been tasking to me and it pains me whenever they fail to attend school like other children due to lack of school fees
