"I don't intend to live in Nairobi forever, so with part of the money that I received, I decided to invest in something that will benefit me whenever I decide to relocate back to the village. I bought a dairy cow(Calf) which I know in a few years will be beneficial in terms of milk production which I will sell for income. I also paid my rent and sent some of the moeny to my brother in college for his upkeep."

Margaret
received a $195 initial payment.
"When I saw the text messages, I knew I had received money from GD but still did not believe that it was real. I decided to go to the nearest M-pesa shop to withdraw a small amount after which my balance would show me what exactly was in my account. When the balance read an amount I didn't have before,I was now sure this money was real."

Rhoda
received a $195 initial payment.
"I used part of my transfer to pay my rent, clear a debt I had borrowed from my table-banking group, buy foodstuff and saved the remaining amount. My plan was to start a business with part of that money, but that was not possible because after taking care of the most urgent needs, the remaining amount was not enough to purchase enough stock. For this reason,I decided to save it as I wait for the second transfer."

Brian
received a $537 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life since I received this transfer is that I now have a television in my house. Before I received this transfer, I used to quarrel with my children every day because they would leave the house unattended to simply because they went to watch television at my neighbour's house. The neighbour too had accused them of stealing from his house whenever they went to watch. This really troubled me and took away my peace. In as much as I had other agent financial needs, I had to buy a television so that I could stop the constant struggle between me and my neighbour. I feel very proud because my children can nolonger bother my neighbour with watching especially when schools are closed like now."

Pascalina
received a $537 initial payment.
"It was in the evening when I was storying with my neighbours when I heard the phone beep. I never considered it important and went on with the story until one of my friends told me to attend to the phone. When I checked the phone, I was shocked and could not believe my eyes. They thought something was wrong and I had to step out to recollect myself. When I told them of what had happened, they too checked their phones since they are also GD recipients. It was a moment of joy for me."
