"I was diagnosed with tuberculosis something that has hindered me from doing heavy duties. Considering my job status, I am still forced to work as a farmer in order to feed my family. My efforts has never been productive enough to sustain my family needs and therefore, I consider lack of reliable source of income as my biggest hardship."

"For the past three years,I have not had a good maize harvest. With maize being the staple food in our community,I have been forced to buy it in order for my family to have a meal.My spouse and I have no source of income and we have had to strain doing casual jobs in people's farms to get enough money to purchase maize. This is the biggest hardship I have faced."

"My ambition is to become a successful businessman in future. I would like to open a big boutique shop in Kisumu county, where I will be able to sell my products in bulk. I will to provide my family with a good life and give my children quality education. I would not want them to go through what I have experienced in life. I had alot of challenges when I grew up. My parents passed on while I was young. I was brought up by different people and this led to me dropping out of school in form two. I would not like my children to go through that experience. I would want them to become successful in life without much struggle."

"My ambition is to be a successful businessman. I want to prosper in my business of selling sugarcane. Before the end of next year I will be owning about 3-4 carts and I will create employment for my peers.I don't want to suffer in future or remain in poverty.
Once I have a better income I will be able to inspire others like me to work hard and not give up even after spending time in prison for stealing. "

Mwenda
received a $542 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own goats. I decided to rear goats because they require minimal attention compared to other domestic animals. I believe the goats will increase in number at a high rate because they normally reproduce twice a year. I am now hopeful and happier because most of my dreams are now achievable. When they multiply, I am planning to sell some of the offsprings at my local markets and that will be my source of income. I will also exchange them for a pair of oxen. The pair of oxen will help me in ploughing my farm and also I will be hiring it to my neighbors at a fee which will be my additional income. These are the well-thought assets that I believe they will totally change my life positively."

received a $49 eighth payment.
"Before I started receiving the GD transfers I only relied on casual work which wasn't reliable and at the same time, I wasn't earning well from it making it challenging to meet most of my needs. I was frustrated most of the times, couldn't even afford a smile and I was forced to stay with my mum because I couldn't afford to pay monthly house rent. I'm happy this is not the case anymore because through the GD transfers I opened up a cereal business which has been sustaining me and as we speak I'm currently staying in my own house because I'm able to pay for the house rent."
