Alice
received a $523 second payment.
"I had two children in secondary school and at the same time, both my spouse and I didn't have a reliable source of income to sustain us. We were therefore forced to stay in a small rental house near our homestead after the previous house fell because we couldn't afford the cost of building materials. If it wasn't for GD I would still be staying in a rental house but I'm happy through GD transfers I was able to construct a bigger and decent house."

Winfred
enrolled.
"On my usual day I wake early, take a shower and prepare my my children for school. I am then left alone to do house chores till around 10 O'clock in the morning. After finishing my chores I sit down and start working. I work from home so that is where I spend all my day doing bead work. I normally go to Kariokor market twice a week to sell my work to people who make Maasai shoes. The rest of the days I work till evening, then prepare food and retire to bed till the next day.
On my free time I visit friends and relatives, I also spend time with my children to know how they are fairing on."

Cavin
received a $524 second payment.
"My life is currently different from the way it would have been had I not received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I'm currently self-employed. This is because I was able to start up a barbershop business with the second transfer. In addition to that, I was able to lease some pieces of land where I have planted both maize and beans thus expecting an improved harvest compared to the previous seasons. This makes me assured of food security and improved living standards in general because there will be an increased income from the produce of my farming activities and the barber shop."

Edwin
received a $494 third payment.
"I have a cyber cafe business which I used all of the most recent transfer I received to boost and maintain. I bought the required materials for the shop such as CDs, printing and photocopy papers then used the rest of the money to clear a pending internet bill for the month."

Tabitha
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is different because I was able to start my small scale business where I buy maize in bulk at wholesale price and later re-sell them at retail prices. I do not think I would have launched this business if I had not received the transfers from Give Directly. Apart from that, I have become a large scale farmer where I keep a lot of livestock which includes cows, sheep, and ducks. One advantage of keeping these birds is that I can be able to sell them out anytime when I feel I am financially broke."

Fredrick
received a $525 second payment.
"I can say that the difference in my life is that I was able to get a new house which probably I could not have had if I could not have received the cash transfers. The kind of finishing I did on the house was also quite expensive and it consumed most of the money I had by then. All these things were made possible courtesy of the transfers from Give Directly."

Moses
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is different because I am now self-employed where I work on my own farms without waiting to get the odd jobs which pay peanuts at the end of each day. I work on my farms where I have planted a lot of cash crops that keep generating some income that makes me financially independent.
I also built a new house and moved away from the small structure that was in such a dilapidated state. Three months before GD gave us the transfers, my entire rooftop was carried away by a heavy wind. I, however, managed to trace where the roof had been carried to and I brought it back re-constructed it but the problem is that it kept on leaking excessively.
Finally, I can say that I paid dowry which is a customary right that gave me the official permission to live with my spouse as a husband and wife."
