"Lack of a good source of income has been my biggest hardship in life. I am running a medium size shop, which provides me with little coins as profits. In a day I earn like 250 shillings. This amount is not enough to cater for my family needs."

"I have been depending on the family land for subsistence farming which is at the moment is not fertile and the produce I get is always very low. My desire has been to buy a fertile portion of land in order to have more produce that can sustain my family for long. To settle this, I intend to spend the utmost 60000 shillings to buy the land. On the other hand, I also plan to use 30000 shillings to repair my house by reinforcing it with stones because it is made of poles and mud. Having done this, I will be guaranteed a better life since I will have food security as well as a better house for living."

"I have never been able to own a better house of my dream because of the difficulties I face in my life say, financial instability. This has forced me to live in a small house which is at the same time, it is used as a granary and a kitchen. Receiving this money means changing my livelihood to a better standard since my plan is to construct a spacious iron-roofed house for my family and I will spend my first transfer to do this. On the other hand, I plan to spend $350 to buy oxen plus an ox plough in order to expand my farming. This will mean food security for my family and hence, a better living."

"Receiving this money means that my family shall have sufficient water for household and farming uses. I have always been fetching water from the Mara river which takes me about four hours to and fro. Hence, I will utilize the transfer on purchasing a big water tank for collecting rainwater and paying for tap water. Since my age as advanced, having clean and safe water for use is a great achievement since I no longer afford to carry even a 20 litre jerrican."

"I live in a very small house that serves as the bedroom and the kitchen. This makes it very hot especially during the day and I cannot even rest inside it. Besides this, the roof is damaged and I spend my nights shifting from one corner to the other during rainy season. Because of its small size, I end up spending the whole night seated on one corner till the rain ceases. Receiving this money therefore means building a better house that will bring comfort in my life."

"My wife succumbed to breast cancer in 2017 and left our 5 young kids under my care. Life has never been easy balancing parental duties and looking for jobs to sustain my family. This has made it impossible to earn enough money because sometimes I even skip jobs to attend to their affairs. I can therefore say, losing my wife is the biggest hardship that I have never been able to recover from the trauma."

"Financial constraint is my biggest hardship due to unstable source of income. Jobs are hard to come and at my age it is even more difficult. This has resulted to the inability to provide for my family fully. Recently, my son succumbed to malaria because I lacked money to seek better healthcare. This really pains me because I feel I have failed as a parent."

"Receiving this money means building a better house for my family. Our current house is so small that it cannot accommodate all of us. This made me built a small chicken pen like structure to shelter my 2 boys. I share the single roomed house with my 3 daughters and whenever my husband comes home, my eldest daughter is forced to sleep in our neighbour's house. Besides this, the house is in a very poor state. Its walls are collapsing and the roof is leaking, making it unbearable during heavy down pour."

"The biggest hardship I have ever experienced in my life is provision of quality food to my family. I solely depend on subsistence farming of maize and beans in my small arable land. Due to persistent and prolonged drought in this area, growth of these plants have been greatly affected to an extend of sometimes having zero harvest. Due to low income I get from my casual labour, I have over depended on bought foodstuffs which are of similar variety hence not quality."
