"A separate house for my children is generally what receiving this money means to me. This is because, at the moment, I share my house with the children who are grown up and this does not give me peace since it is too small and it can not accommodate us. My plan once I receive the cash grant is to spend $300 to construct the house for the children something that will guarantee me the respect that I have lost for long. On the other hand, I also plan to use $300 to buy oxen to help me upscaling my farming since I currently depend on using traditional methods of farming like the use of a hoe. This has resulted in low production and consequently food insecurity in my household."

"My greatest desire has been to make my house look more conducive for my living and I have always wished to plaster the inner walls as well as flooring it. This desire has not come through because of the financial crisis that we face in our household and I am always feeling unhappy seeing mice holes in my house. Receiving this money means fulfilling my dream and I intend to spend utmost 25000 shillings to finish the house to my desired standards. On the other hand, I also plan to buy 10 goats at $30 each in order to have a dependable project that can sort my family needs in the future."

"Providing for family is the greatest challenge I am facing right now. I have a family of 9 and fully catering for them all on a daily basis is an uphill task for me. It is so shameful to see my children going to the neighborhood to have something to eat because they have nothing in their home. This is something that is super stressing me as a parent. I have tried farming but because of persistent drought all I getting is losses after losses. All that is left for me to do is being a casual labourer in people's farms. This too is not paying enough because the much I get is 100, sometimes 200 shillings. This is never enough for my big family."

"Having to feed my family has been the biggest nightmare to me. We practice farming and because we live in an area which experiences low rainfall, we have been getting losses every other year. We grow maize and beans but prolonged droughts have seriously affected our main source of livelihood. Personality, I got only two sacks of maize from the 1.5 acre piece of land and this is not enough to feed my family of 6 children."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the inability to own a cow. In our community, cattle are highly treasured livestock because they act as one of the backbones of our economy and source of milk for consumption. Since I have been struggling to repay a certain loan, I have never afforded to but a cow. Hence, my family spends significant amounts of money daily on purchasing milk that we always consume and utilize in making tea. Besides, my family finds itself as a substandard family unlike our neighbors who own cattle."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is losing my father when I needed him most. He passed on when I had just completed grade 12 of my studies. Since he was the sole person who could pay for my studies, I was forced to stop pursuing my dream course of becoming a plant operator. Accordingly, I am leading a relatively substandard lifestyle because I lack the necessary skills and knowledge that could secure me a well-paying job."
