"Depending on crop farming has let me down for long. This is because the climatic conditions in this region are not favourable. We experience prolonged drought whereas it is hard to get an alternative source of income. This forces me to look for casual jobs away from home. The casual jobs are not predictable and therefore I find myself at home most of the times. This has made me struggle a lot in providing for my children."

"Receiving this money will help me increase my livestock by adding two dairy cows. This will cost me 500 USD. When they increase in number, I will be able to sell some and get money. My house is small given that I live with three children and eight grand children. I have a plan of building a separate house for the elder boys because they cannot live in one house. This will cost around 400 USD."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to take good care of myself for the remaining part of my years. At my age, I no longer have the energy I used to have back in the days. I intend to invest on light work like small scale poultry farming for 250USD so that I get proceeds from the sale of their products to keep me active. Additionally, I will construct a house and furnish it with good household stuff for comfortability. I will also buy one dairy cattle for 200USD to supplement me with milk and finally ensure I eat healthy."

"I have a young family that is solely dependent on me. I decided to look for a casual job of working on other people's farm as a gardener. This does not offer me and my family a regular flow of income since there is no surety of getting one the following day. Living with the fear/likelihood on not having a job the next day is always the biggest hardship I experience."

"My old age is accompanied by poor health that has made me less productive in terms of work. I have constant pains in my pelvis that make it very hard to bend. Recently, my leg suffered from mysterious inflammation that immobilized me for 3 weeks. I therefore depend mostly on my children who are casual labourers. Life is very unbearable since they do not earn enough to sustain us. In this regard, I consider financial instability is my biggest hardship."

"I will use this money to build a three roomed iron roofed house at an approximate cost of $300. This will enable me to harvest rain water during rainy seasons hence a relief in having to walk 4 kilometers to the nearby water pan in search of water for domestic use. I will therefore have buy a 3000 litres water tank @ $180. I live in my one roomed hut with my 19 year old son. According to our culture, a grown up boy should not live under one roof with his parents but we got no option on this since I only engage in a small business of buying eggs and selling them at a profit and I use all the money I earn to buy food only, the reason why I have never afforded to build him his own house. I will also spend $300 to buy a dairy cow whose income from selling milk will supplement my daily income from my business."

"Financial inadequacy is my biggest hardship. This is due to low income because our income generating activities are unstable. My husband's motorcycle business has really been affected by the pandemic and the much he earns is 300 shillings a day. My tailoring job produces around 300 shillings a month. This is due to the hard economic situation in our village where people do not view clothes as a priority. This situation has resulted to us lacking even the cheapest commodities such a quarter of sugar which goes for 25 shillings."

"My family keeps growing everyday and according to our culture it's not advisable to live in the same house with my grown-up sons. My desire has been to build a separate house for my children so that I can enjoy privacy in my own house. When I receive the money I will use 50,000 shillings to build a good house for the children, 30,000 shillings will be used to buy 3 cows which will provide milk and sell to help in any financial emergency. The remaining amount will be used for our daily needs such as food."

"Investing in my children's education is what receiving this money means to me. I have 10 children which I need to educate them to the college level. This desire requires a lot of cash to materialize. I am planning to purchase 2 cows at $150 each this will be me future investment and I will be able to sell them once they reproduce to educate my children."

"Lack of capital to materialize my dream of starting a my shop business has been my biggest hardship. Being a second wife, we depend on our husband who can not fully support our basic need like clothing and food for the extend family of 15 members. This has force me to do casual jobs like charcoal vending inorder to supplement his income, despite this job being tiresome."
