"This money will not only provide economic stability for my family but also earn us a good social standing in our village. In a pastoralist community such as ours, lack of livestock is equated with poverty. I am happy that with this money, I will finally own livestock, scale up farming by acquiring oxen and oxplough. I will also have a dairy cow and some goats for rearing. I believe with these, my family will comfortably feed, educate our children and even save for the future."

"For the married couples it is easier to share responsibilities concerning the family making the burden lighter but for us single parents, the whole load of duties falls squarely on our shoulders. With literally no support system I have to work extra hard to feed and educate my five children which has not been easy at all. My catering business does not bring in enough income because it's seasonal and there are times I resort to doing odd jobs such as fetching water or cleaning houses in Bamba town just to make ends meet, but still the earnings are too little for food and other basic needs. Most times my children are sent home from school to collect fee balances that am yet to clear. I am glad that Give Directly will now help me bring an end to my financial woes. "

"My new goal is to open up a boutique where I can sell shoes and clothes. I hawked clothes for a period of two years in Mathare before opening up my restaurant. I plan to venture in to selling clothes again in future by opening up a boutique where I can stock these items."

"Since I got married 12 years ago, I have had to part with 1500 KES every month to meet the cost of a liter of milk that I buy every day. Receiving this money means I am going to become a cow owner and milk supplier for the first time in my life. I intend to use my first transfer to buy two milking cows to provide milk for domestic consumption and sale of surplus. This means I will be in a position to save money that would otherwise have gone to milk purchases and proceeds from the new venture to fend for my three children's education and colossal household needs. Moreover upon receiving my second transfer, my plan is to purchase a second hand motorcycle to help me in the efficiency of my charcoal selling business from one point to another. My ambition is to place my family out of poverty one year on from now. Thank you GiveDirectly. "

"My life is currently different in that, I am now self-employed and all the money that I make from my business is mine. I do not have to share it with anyone, like I shared before with my employer. I also managed to move out of my parents house and to get my own place. I now have my own space as I fully depend on myself now."

"I expect my life to be more secured in the next six months since I will buy and fix a steel door in my main house. I currently have a wooden door which is very weak thus I am always afraid that someone can easily break it and attack us."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months because I will have started my poultry farm. I believe this business will add me extra cash since chicken is a common delicacy in our village and also the nearby towns. With proper management and marketing strategies, I know that I will get enough profit to take care of the unplanned emergencies that may arise."
