"Having two children in secondary school and no source of income for their fees has been the biggest hardship I have faced.I fully depend on my 0.3 acre piece of land to produce enough to feed my family as well as raise fees. This has often been impossible due to changing weather conditions and maize (main crop) diseases.I have therefore had to organize for a fundraiser within our village to help with the fees and most times very little is raised because people here hardly have an extra coin to contribute.Everyone has their own struggles too."

"My life is different from how it was in that, I have managed to buy a few chicken and cows. These were some of the dreams that sounded impossible before I started receiving transfers from Give Directly. I feel proud of owning them because almost everyone in our village has them, therefore, I will cease being the odd one out. I also feel good because cows are always considered to be very important assets"

"My life is different from how it was in that, I was able to built a house and this saved me from selling my cow to build it. This was an old house and grass-thatched which had to be repaired most of the time which was hectic. I feel good living in a decent house which is well furnished."

"Imagine sleeping under
a leaking and nearly open-roofed house!! It has been a very hard moment for me since this condition has affected my husband health-wise. With the financial constraints I face, my desire to have a decent one has been in vain not to mention renovating the old one. This has forced my husband to relocate to Bamba town to be closer to the hospital and also to have a good shelter from my relative. Now that we are experiencing the long rains, I am spending sleepless nights due to my leaking roof. Therefore, financial instability has been my biggest hardship. "

"I shall have saved and bought more stock to boost my business to improve on income generation for the family. I would have also plastered my house by then and I would have a very beautiful house that will be the envy of the whole village."

"Constructing two houses has made our lives as a family so different. We enjoy privacy, we do not scramble for space when it comes to bedtime and also enjoys great shelter as we are no longer rained on. My children no longer fall sick because of the cold weather. These have happened courtesy of the transfers we received from GiveDirectly."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own an iron-roofed house. I have been longing to renovate it but due to my financial status, I could not afford it. My previous roofing was so hectic because it was a grass-thatched one and whenever it rained it was hectic. My children too never had peace since when it's time to sleep they were forced to sleep at my neighbor's house especially in winter seasons because of the leaking roof. But ever since I renovated it, the problem is solved. Secondly, whenever they wanted to study, they found it hard because the environment was unfavorable and due to this reason it was affecting their academic performance. Ever since I renovated it they have been studying comfortably without any interference. I am so grateful for that courtesy to GiveDirectly."
