"The biggest hardship I face is lack of an income generating activity. I only rely on crop farming which in most cases is not reliable due to weather issues. I have failed in managing most of my family responsiblities like providing better shelter , food and health care services."

"Receiving this money means ability to pay school fees for my child in a timely manner. This will create susainability in the household and out side rge household, thus the saying, " educate a child, educate a nation." I have been struggling to pay school fees for my child from the proceeds from farming. This leaves my household with little or no food at household level hence famine."

"Lack of capital for my tailoring business has been quite a headache. Countless times have I lost orders from customers because I did not have the fabrics needed neither the cash to buy them. In a month, I make 2000 shillings at most which am sure would double or even triple if I had the necessary materials. This income is too little to feed or cater for other needs such as education for my 3 children. "

"Since I could not afford a sewing machine, I decided to rent one at a cost of 1000 shillings a month. This turned out to be a costly venture as the 1000 I pay is more than what I make within the month by almost 200 shillings. Thus, am always far behind on the rent and cannot meet other needs such as food and education for my kids. "

"Receiving this money means independence. With my transfers, I will build another house and move out of my co-wife's house with whom I sought shelter after my previous house collapsed. By doing this, I will regain my freedom, voice and be able to run my own home the way I feel best."

"My husband is a driver but he is not fully employed. He therefore depends on other peoples' vehicles to ferry customers. This means he does not have a consistent source of income. He can spend up to a whole month without earning anything. This has negatively affected us since he is the sole breadwinner. He is straining too much to provide for us making financial instability my biggest hardship."

"Presently, I am staying with my elderly parent with my three children. As a single, parent with children, I have been thinking of buying a piece of land where I will build a home for myself and my children. Even after the government has passed laws that male and female child have the right to inherit the land from parents, I am seeing this would not bee good and safe enough for me and my children to remain at my parents home. Since my child is almost completing her studies, I will start saving towards buying a piece of land. I am looking forward to buying a piece of land where I would build a home for myself and my children."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that we are now living a happy life as a family unlike before. We used to live in a small piece of land that we were sharing with my husband's brothers. In addition to the small space for farming, family conflicts among ourselves was a daily business due to our daily activities and conflicts triggered by our livestock. Life was hard and unpeaceful with our children finding it hard to socialize with others. Due to this, it had always been our desire to relocate and live in a different place far from them. These disputes had also affected my children's social life as they could no longer mingle with other children freely. Courtesy of GiveDirectly, I bought a piece of land that I have developed and relocated my family there. I am now hoping that our relationship with them will grow to be stronger as we will not be crossing each other's paths regularly."
