"I was busy farming on my kitchen garden when I heard a message notification on my phone. I stopped to check what it was all about and I was so excited when I saw that we had received the transfer of KES 55000 that GiveDirectly had promised. The joy was too much that I left what I was doing and I went to immediately inform my husband and son the good news. They were so happy to hear about it and we celebrated together. My son and I then prepared ourselves and we went to withdraw the money."

"The biggest hardship I'm facing now is money. I want to start a business which will bring joy to my family but I don't have money. Eventhough I was doing business to sustain my family, the money I earned from the business I was doing, I used it to pay my hospital bills. Because of that, the business I was doing collapse. I will appreciate any help from Givedirectly in order to start a business which will bring joy and happiness to my family."

"The biggest difference that the transfer has brought into my life is that with the water tank, I can now collect rain water and I have been able to rest a little bit. I no longer have to make long trips to the river to fetch water. We were also able to pay school fees for our children and hence we no longer have worries that they are going to be sent home due to school fees arrears. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for this, may God bless you."

"We spent most of the money that we got from GiveDirectly on constructing another house. We have been having a small kitchen which was grass-thatched and it had grown old. We have always wanted to construct another one but we have not been able to due to the lack of a lump sum amount that is needed to do such kind of development. I am engaged in a small business of brokering cows while my wife is a small-scale farmer. The money that we raise from our small income-earning activities is only enough to cater for food and pay part of the school fees for our children. So when we got the money that GiveDirectly had promised, we saw the opportunity to achieve what we've always planned. We demolished the old kitchen and we constructed another one using wooden planks and we roofed it using iron sheets. We are so grateful to GiveDirectly for making this happen."

"Being a farmer who planted cassava to fix Garie (cassava product) to sell but due to the poor road network, most of my goods get spoil due to difficulty seeing buyer(s) as a result my children are thrown out of school due to lack of money so when I received money transfer from Give Directly, I will pay all of my children school fees and the remaining money will be used to buy zinc to improve my house."

"What I plan to do with the cash is to start a business and also build a house. Being a separate household living in a family house is so embracing to me and my household members. The lack of cash has also made me incapacitated to provide for the needs of my family. Having this cash will make me build a house that will allow me and my family to leave the family house. A portion of the money I will use to start a business of my own which will help me raise more money to provide the needs of my family."

""The challenge I'm facing currently is getting food for myself. My ex boyfriend and I used to struggle together,we farmed, burnt Charcoal and sell our crops to survive, but since he left me two weeks ago it's difficult for me to get food. Right now,my friend is the one helping me with money to eat,but I'm not comfortable with it because he has his girlfriend I feel he shouldn't be doing that for me because it's not his obligation. I don't want his girlfriend to think different and get mad at me"."

"I plan to buy zinc, build a house and send my children to school. The burger bugs have eaten all my sticks and the house is almost like collapsing, which makes me afraid. I'm afraid that one day, it will break and I have small children here living with me. Looking at this condition, I will like to buy new zinc so that I can build my house. I will also send my children to school because for now, the work I do does not give me more money that will enable me send my children to schoo and feed them at the same timel. When I receive this transfer from GiveDirectly, I will definitely send my children to acquire education."
