"I live in a mud house in which it's floor is earthen. My wife and I are quite old. Having her to smear the floor everytime is quite hectic with this old age. We end up living in a dusty room as the floor is rarely smeared. This exposes me to discomfort and could even cause chest problems. Receiving this money means that I am able to buy some bags of cement and sand to plaster the floor. It will greatly improve my living conditions and make it easy to clean. I will live in a healthy and a nice environment as I will refurbish and furnish the house in addition to plastering. It also means that I am able to buy dairy cow. This will be a source of income as I sell milk to meet my daily needs."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is educating my children alone after passing on of my husband. My husband died in the year 1983 when our first born child was a form one. Coming to terms with the incident was hard situation to tackle and to make it worst was providing for my family basic needs. I had no job hence I had to rely on casual jobs to meet my family daily basic needs education for my children being the hardest of all."

"My top concern is extra judicial killings in Mathare which makes me live in a state of fear. We have been denied freedom of assembly as youths because whenever we are in groups we are always seen as suspects and which leads to police harrassments, arrests or even killings. At times there are no investigations done, and no one is able to raise his or her voice for fear of being victimized. Another thing that I fear is political violence especially when we have a presidential election in our country. There is negative ethnicity in slums because of political affiliation and friends turn to each other where they fight, maim, kill or burn houses. I find myself in fear of ever realizing my ambition of becoming a lawyer."

"For a long time, I have had a desire of owning assets of my own that would help me generate income and handle any financial emergencies. Receiving this money would bring an end to my endless reliance on donations from my relatives to meet my emergency needs. I will buy a cow that will help me generate income by engaging in milk selling business and be able to have my own assets going forward. I am so delighted about this cash."
