Edwine
received a $530 second payment.
"I have been able to do a few things which have transformed my life tremendously. I have been self employed courtesy of the cash I got from the organization. Right now I plan my own schedule and I only work when I think I need to be at work rather than working to fulfill the employers needs."

Janet
received a $447 second payment.
"Being able to aquire a complete set of ox plough as made a difference in my life. This is because as of now, I will have timely farming, save from hiring oxen, and cultivate on large scale. This will improve and increase on the food production in my family. Before, I had to hire oxen, and had late farming which would reasult to poor harvest as the season people come to cultivate for me meets the wrong time of farming.
The mere fact that I have money now has changed my life. This is so as I can buy anything that desire. For example in terms of feeding, my family and I can change diet. This was not the case before. We used to almost feed on the same food for the longest time possible and a balance diet was never considered."

Makulata
received a $447 second payment.
"My life has greatly changed now that I got proper treatment using this transfer. I was taken to a hospital in Mbale where I got diagonised, all check ups done and treatment given that has left me able to personally walk and do some work. Previously, my health was deteriorating as I could not walk, support myself and even bath. My legs had given way and my daughters could help in everything.
In addition, putting up a modern pit latrine has made my life different. This is because I will personalize one side of the latrine where it will be built in a way that makes it easy for me to use. It will be set up like that of the disabled. Before I used to just struggle to help myself as my knees are weak and can not squat. I therefore to some worse times used a basin and later wasted it out."

Getrude
enrolled.
"My husband and co-wife died 20 years ago and left me with the responsibility of raising 8 children. Being a housewife by then, their deaths came as a big blow since I had no means of providing for them. Life has been full of struggles seeing them through school and meeting other basic needs. The clothes business that I started in order to help me also collapsed and left me suffering more. I have never been financially stable in my life and I can say it is my biggest hardship."

Mathew

"My life is much better at the moment unlike before receiving the transfers. At the moment I own three dairy cows unlike before when I used to own none. All of them are about to calf. They are the best breeds and hence I expect over 10 liters of milk a day. Dairy farming has really kept me busy unlike before when I was just Idling around. The hope of getting income out of dairy farming really makes me happy since I will be able to able to meet my family's needs more easily and effectively."

Mary
received a $224 second payment.
"My life is so relaxed and relieved ever since I received the cash transfers. The cash transfers were spent on treating my child who had a complicated orthopaedic condition. This required alot of money and thank God, GiveDirectly sent the cash transfers. I would have lost my child because at that time we did not have money to carry out the numerous medical tests and checkups. However, my spouse abandoned me because of the pressure and tensions at home. I decided to relocate back to my parents. I am glad that GiveDirectly still sent me the cash transfers that are helping me to date."

"I am very happy that I sleep on a comfortable mattress and in a nice iron roofed house. Before GiveDirectly launched, I was sleeping in an old tiny grass thatched hut and I could not afford even medical treatment. The GiveDirectly cash transfers have elevated my standards of living."
