"My life is different in that I now have a piece of land that is under my ownership. I never thought that I will one day own a piece of land like I am doing now. The piece of land that I bought has enabled me engage in other income generating activities that has helped my family a lot. It gives me much joy as well that I was able to clear school fees for my daughter in time that gave her enough time in school to study and to which she passed her form four exams and is due to join college soon. Nothing could make me any prouder than this. I will forever be indebted to GiveDirectly."

Peter
received a $530 second payment.
"I am now the proud owner of a house. I bought building materials i.e iron sheets, nails, timber and poles to use in building a new house. Previously, I did not have a house and this saw me sleep in my own parent's kitchen. My agemates had built their own houses but I did not have one due to meagre income I got from casual work that only bought food for my family on a daily basis. I did not have any savings plans in place to see the construction of a new house.GiveDirectly really saved from shame from mockery in my society."

Stephen
received a $367 second payment.
"I received my recent transfer when I was undergoing some medication since I was sick. Because of this, I spent part of it to buy some drugs which the doctor had prescribed to me but I had not been able to buy them since they were quite expensive. During this time, I had been instructed by the doctor to take some special meals and I used some of this money to gather for this since I did not have any other money to use. I also decided to enroll myself in a driving school using the remaining amount so that I can have a driving license and be able to acquire a job using it. Acquiring a job as a driver will save me from suffering from different diseases like asthma due to the nature of the jobs I usually do."

Teresia
received a $367 second payment.
"My new goal in life that I didn't have before receiving the transfer is to start a business of selling fruits in retail. I will be getting these fruits from rural areas and I believe that it is more profitable as I will be buying them at a cheaper price. Since I am doing a hairdressing course, I am now planning to open my own saloon which I will be operating. This will help me diversify my sources of income and it will make me meet all my family needs on time."

"In the six months, I expect to have started a small shop which will be bringing me some income. This will give me an opportunity to invest in other projects such as livestock farming. Douglas
received a $50 fourth payment.
"I spent part of my most recent transfer to pay my house rent. I was down financially and the landlord had threatened to close my house. I must say the cash came in handy and saved me from the shame of my house being locked and being laughed at by my neighbors who think that I am not responsible. It could be so embarrassing I don't know where I would have gone. I used the remaining amount to pay school fees for my children who had been sent back home since I had not paid even a single penny as their school fees."
