How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Being able to aquire a complete set of ox plough as made a difference in my life. This is because as of now, I will have timely farming, save from hiring oxen, and cultivate on large scale. This will improve and increase on the food production in my family. Before, I had to hire oxen, and had late farming which would reasult to poor harvest as the season people come to cultivate for me meets the wrong time of farming. The mere fact that I have money now has changed my life. This is so as I can buy anything that desire. For example in terms of feeding, my family and I can change diet. This was not the case before. We used to almost feed on the same food for the longest time possible and a balance diet was never considered.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well by pulling most people from the bitting poverty that had left them helpless and hopeless. To me, I fill great gratitude towards it as it has helped me to carry on with the activities that such as clkearing my compoud, paying fees and buyong an ox plough that I thought I would not do. On the other hand, GiveDirectly has done nothing bad as it only helped people to develop.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer Ugx 245000 to buy a complete set of ox plough. This will help me to have timely cultivation and avoid borrowing other peoples oxen and plough all the time. I then spent Ugx 500000 to pay fees for my grandchildren who are in a private school in Kampala. This is I was left as a guadian to them after the death of their parents. I also had to clear my home compound land that was surrounding me as it had become too bushy. My compound being too large, I had never got the money to hire people to help as personally I was incapable of doing so. I bought some food that my family and I are feeding on as it's a dry season and one can not cultivate easy to mature food now. I am saving a balance of Ugx 200000. This will act as money for emergencies.
