How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed now that I got proper treatment using this transfer. I was taken to a hospital in Mbale where I got diagonised, all check ups done and treatment given that has left me able to personally walk and do some work. Previously, my health was deteriorating as I could not walk, support myself and even bath. My legs had given way and my daughters could help in everything. In addition, putting up a modern pit latrine has made my life different. This is because I will personalize one side of the latrine where it will be built in a way that makes it easy for me to use. It will be set up like that of the disabled. Before I used to just struggle to help myself as my knees are weak and can not squat. I therefore to some worse times used a basin and later wasted it out.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done well by bringing happiness to my life. This is through giving me money that has helped me to get proper treatment and a modern pit latrine that I can use easily. On the other hand, not leaving me out in my condition of illnes during enrollment has really proved that GiveDirectly has done well to help everybody.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of my second transfer Ugx 1100000 to set up a pit latrine. This included digging it, buying materials such as bricks, timber, iron sheets, cement, sand and paying labor. I used Ugx 100000 for treatment. I had a problem with my mobility as my legs have paralysis issue some times. I spent some money to cater for my personal effects such as food, clothing, utensils and bedding. I am saving Ugx 100000. This will cater for some emergencies such as sickness that comes unplanned.
