"Part of my roof leaks in water during rainy seasons, thus this money will enable me to renovate the roof as well as install ceiling boards in my house. I also intend to buy a dairy heifer costing $200 that will be a source of milk for my family consumption as well as income in future when it multiplies. I will then save the remaining part of my transfer to buy nutritious food for my spouse who has been ailing from stoke for the last 7 years."

"I have been living in my small house for long and sometimes when I get visitors it is difficult to accommodate them. I am usually forced to borrow shelter from my neighbours. As a mother of three,I feel there is no privacy with the small room given that my children are growing older day by day. I will therefore use the money to expand my house to have two extra rooms. In addition, I will buy three cows which will boost me financially through the sale of milk."

"Lack of enough income is the biggest hardship I have faced in my family. Payment of school fees for my 4 children without stable income is not easy. It needs alot of struggle and in our area securing employment is not easy hence we have been depending on subsistence farming. Sometimes the harvest from this is very little due to bad weather conditions."

"I have 10 children and my house has only two rooms. Recently I have been forced to build a make shift house whose roof is made of polythene bags to house the older children. When I receive this money I will be glad to build a house with two rooms which will cost me around 300 USD. As schools reopen, school fees will be needed and therefore part of the money will go into the fees together with school uniform. I will also buy food for my children which is a big problem at this time."

"Am single mother of two children and getting milk for them is hard since have to buy every day from my neighbor which I normally spend around $3 in a month. It has been a challenge to me because I don't have daily income. Receiving Givedirectly transfer I bought a esher heifer at a cost of $40 which will give more products of milk as per our weather here. The remaining amount,I will use to start a business of buying and selling maize at my nearby poshomill hence transforming me to have income to sustain my family with food stuffs."

"My spouse is very old and can no longer perform some duties in the home.An example of this is smearing our two roomed-mud walled house.I have always wished to get some money so I could rebuild the walls with sand so that she does not have to smear it.I think this is the best time to do that.I have estimated the refurbishing to cost around 20 USD.I also intend to buy a dairy cow so that whenever the one we have does not produce milk,we do not have to incur extra costs to buy milk from neighbours."

"Financial instability is my biggest hardship. This is a result of the fact that I do not have a stable job. I depend mostly on casual jobs that are hard to come by and I earn 1000 shillings in a good month. This situation makes it difficult to cater for my family needs and it is a common scenario to go without food. Sometimes it is hard to raise even 5 shillings for over the counter pain killers in case someone falls sick."

"My husband was involved in a grisly road accident in 2011 that left him half dead. This forced him to spend 6 months in the hospital, a condition that drained all our financial resources. I even sold over 20 goats to finance the medical bill and it wasn't sufficient and we resorted to fund raising. A year later, his leg which was badly injured by then was amputated. This worsened the situation as he couldn't actively engage in casual jobs and I had already lost my business. Since then, we have never recovered and my family suffers financial constraint which is our biggest hardship."

"My desire has been to start a small shop business in my village so that I could have a sustainable source of income to support my family. Receiving this money mean accomplishment of my dreams since I am planning to invest $ 250 in constructing the structure and purchase stock for my shop. In addition, I will spend the remaining amount of my first transfer to expand my business of growing and selling of vegetables around the village. I be able to earn at least 2 dollars per day something that will change our lives for the better."
