"I work as a security man at our nearby school and this is the only job that has been relied on by my family. The income from this job is very little($50) per month and since this salary is from the parent's contributions, sometimes I receive my pay very late, and this inconveniences me. Meeting my family's very basic needs like food, proper beddings, and school fees has been a challenge and I always feel this life treats me unfairly. Therefore, the lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life."

"Expanding my farming to have more harvests has been my greatest desire that I have long wished but this has not materialized due to financial constraints. During land preparation, I am forced to hire oxen which cost me $20 and considering this time which is hard to find money, I am even worried this season could be so terrible. To solve this menace, I plan to buy oxen that I can solely own at a cost of $300. This will assure of early land preparation and eventually more harvests for my family. I also plan to buy a sewing machine that will cost me $120 in order to have an extra reliable source of income. In addition, I will construct a small store for my farm produce which at the moment I use my main house as a kitchen as well as a store, something that does not give me peace of mind because my house looks conjested."

""My ambition has been to have a decent house but due to financial problems, this dream has not been fulfilled. I am an elderly widow who depends on my grandchild who does casual jobs, at our nearby center and these jobs earn little amounts that can cater for the needs of our daily basis. This is the reason as to why they have failed to construct me the house. I am planning to spend 80,000 shillings buildings spacious house. Other than that, I will use the extra amount to purchase beddings. I have been using local beds made of ropes which are uncomfortable.""

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is inadequacy of school fees to educate my children. Raising a family of 4 children single handedly is an uphill task. I lost my husband 8 years ago due to stroke and since then, our life changed drastically owing to the fact that he was the sole provider of the family. This forced me to look for an alternative source of income working in other people's farms as a casual labourer within the village such as weeding, digging, among others. The wage I get is hardly enough for fees and other domestic use because I get approximately Kenya shillings 200 a day."

"The biggest hardship we have faced in life is inadequacy of School fees to educate my children. Initially, we relied on growing maize and beans in our 0.8 piece of land but due to poor climatic condition we hardly harvest enough to cater for the entire family's needs. This forced my husband to look for an alternative source of income as a security guard in the city earning a meagre wage of Ksh 8,000. Give directly came in handy at this hard time."

"Receiving this money means that we shall afford to own a cow as a family. In our family, we value cattle keeping because it is a source of prestige and a sign of wealth. The little income that I obtain from my casual work is barely enough for our family's demands and needs."

"Receiving this money means that income for my family will dramatically increase and thus leading to a better living standard. I have been yearning to purchase a posho mill and open a shop at my compound because I am adjacent to a nearby center. Hence, the businesses will help boost the little income that I normally attain from my small crop and livestock farming. As a result, I will be able to purchase more decent furniture and quality food among other basic needs."

"The biggest challenge I have faced in my life is seeking treatment for my sick daughter. My daughter has not been feeling well for the past 3years now, and this has been something that has really been weighing me down. We have visited so many health facilities but no single hospital has ever given us a medical explanation of what is ailing my daughter, to a point that I am gradually loosing hope. I spend 800 shillings monthly buying her some tablets but her situation is not getting any better."

"My husband has been sick since the year 2010. He has been on and off various hospitals and this has drained us financially. We have sold all the cows to cater for his medical bills. Even now he cannot do most of the things on his own since the disease paralysed one side of his body. What is left for us to do is to watch him suffer because there is nothing much we can do."

"It has always been my dream to educate my children to the university level, a dream that has been rendered futile now that three of my sons are secondary school drop outs due to lack of school fees to futher their education. I mainly depend on selling my farm produce to earn a living, but due to prolonged drought in this region, land productivity is low hence poor harvests. My son who graduated from the university is still jobless hence I got no one to give me an helping hand in educating my other 3 sons, which is the biggest hardship I face."
