"I have always had problems securing enough food every year because to get fertilizers for the garden has been a far fetched dream due to financial constraints as a result hunger has been a constant visitor in this household. So with this money I intend to purchase enough food items to last me throughout the year and I will also use a part of the money to renovate my house"

"My house is very small and it can not accommodate us and this has forced my 2 children to seek shelter from my neighbor something that has ashamed me for a long time. When I heard about the arrival of GiveDirectly to our village, my hopes of owning a spacious iron-roofed house got renewed and I am now confident that soon this dream will materialize. My intention once I receive this money is to spend utmost $350 l to construct the house and the remaining amount of the first transfer to cater for beddings. With the second transfer, I plan to buy oxen at $300 to upscale my farming and I will also get 5 goats at $20 each. All this will change my life for the better, a transformation that I have wished for a long time."

"I depend on farming to get food and money for my daily needs. However prolonged drought has really affected my income and led to a lot of struggle in getting food. This has forced my spouse to move to the nearest town in search of casual jobs. The casual jobs also pay very little and are not available all the time. Financial constraints has therefore remained to be my biggest hardship."

"Receiving this money means building a better house for us. Currently we shelter in a traditional hut that is made of grass and it's prone to damages. This causes constant leaks during heavy rains making it unfit for human life. It is also the same house that we use as a kitchen and it gets smoky at night, thus causing persistent respiratory problems. Besides this, I will purchase goats and continue with my rearing project inorder to finance my son's education."

"Receiving this money means purchasing a pair of oxen and a plough. The motive behind this is to achieve food security which has been my desire for ages. I still use the hoe to till my land and the much I cultivate are two acres of land. This is because it is quite cumbersome hence slowing the process. In the long run I end up getting food that lasts for around 4 months, forcing me to buy for the rest of the year. Since I do not have a good income, my family suffers a lot."

"We are a young family that depends primarily on casual job for survival. To be exact, we rely on my husband's carpentry job to acquire food, raise school fees for our children and accomplish other developmental projects. Unfortunately, the relatively little income that we get is insufficient to suffice all our needs. In that regard, we have been uncertain whether our daughter who is currently in Grade 11 would continue pursuing her studies since carpentry jobs have become scarce. Hence, we are certain that our daughter will have ample time to study and complete her course once we receive this money. Nothing other than educating our children makes us proud as a family."
