"Receiving this money means an increase in self-esteem. I live in a small grass-thatched house which is not enough to accommodate a family of six; my wife, 4 children, and I. Whenever I receive visitors, I feel unease welcoming them to my house something that has lowered my self-esteem. I am therefore aspiring to build a new house that costs approximately Ksh 20,000 and improve my life to a greater extent."

"The biggest hardship I have faced has been unemployment, my husband earns 10,000 shillings a month and his income is what we mostly depend on. During this pandemic his job security is unknown because one month they are in school the next pupils are asked to study online, meaning on such months he doesn't earn because his job is dependant on the presence of school children at school. This has resulted to financial straining for the family."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is raising school fees for my children. I usually struggle to sustain my family since profits from my grocery business is too small. Also, gains from our subsistence farming is barely enough for us. In that regard, I was forced to sell the only cow we had to raise the needed school fees when my first child joined Grade 9 last year, 2020. Precisely, I have always been worried about educating my children without a helping hand or a reliable source of income."

"As a young family that resides in a rural setup yet has to purchase almost everything, especially food items, we have never managed to build a bigger house. The relatively little income I usually attain from my house-construction job is barely enough to meet our basic needs. Currently we live in one house that serves as the kitchen, sitting and bed rooms. Unfortunately, our two-roomed house is too small for our family of four. Also, sooth and smoke act as common nuisances we are facing since we use firewood as fuel. As such, receiving this money means that we shall afford to build another house, thus gaining more space and avoiding the smoke and sooth."
