"For the past 7 years, I have not had a successful maize harvest as a result of crop diseases and drought. I am therefore forced to buy maize at a nearby market at a price of KES 100 per 2 kgs. This amount is hard to find given that we don't have a formal employment or a stable income stream. My biggest worry currently is that I may spend the little amount of money we have to plant maize because of the onset of rains and these also fail."

"Food security has been a challenge to me for such a long time. Receiving this money means I will be able to buy two oxen and a plough at a cost of 300 USD. This will help me till more land so as to increase crop yield. I have a four acre piece of land but using a hoe to plough limits me to just ploughing 2 acres. Increased crop production will ensure that enough to feed my family and surplus for sale."

"On many occasions, I wake up in the morning not knowing what my children will eat. I have six children and it has been a big challenge getting food for them. I depend on my farm to get food but with the prolonged droughts every now and then, it has been difficult getting good yields. This has forced my spouse to move to the urban area to look for casual jobs which again pay as little as 3 USD in a day and are sometimes not available. This means that we sometimes skip meals. Getting the basic needs and moreso food has therefore been my biggest hardship."

"I am really grateful for being enrolled in the program. The money means a lot to me. I had plans to build a house but I have been failing because of money. The money will be enough to build a bigger house which can accommodate my family.
I will also be able to buy matresses, beddings and clothes for the family. I will also be able to buy food so that I can supplement my harvest."
