"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house. I live in a small grass thatched house which is leaking from inside. The house is so old and it is almost falling apart. We are being exposed to cold during the rainy season. I spent some money I received from GiveDirectly to complete the construction of the new house. It's almost done and we are yet to move in. I depend on small scale farming and casual jobs in the village to earn an income. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family. I had no extra money to build a better house. I am so happy now because I know I will move in to a better house and live well with my child. We will no longer be exposed to cold. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard. I hope to invest in livestock with the remaining amount. This will be my investment and I will devote my time and ensure that I make it great."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving out unconditional transfers to people. With the transfers, one is able to cater for their needs and meet their goals as a family. For the instance, with the transfers, I was able to purchase a heifer and two sets of seats, build a house for my family and also purchased a piece of land for my son. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well."

"GiveDirectly does well by giving out financial aid to people in the community. People can in turn use this money to build better houses and pay school fees for their children. I do not see anything that they do not do well."

"I spent 480 dollars to buy an improved Dairy cow breed. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming and casual jobs in the village. The money that I get through this is so small. I had no extra money to buy a dairy cow. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. Dairy cow."

"My biggest hardship I have faced is lack of opportunity to be employed. My husband is a primary school teacher by profession but ever since he graduated, he has not been posted to his work station. Now it's over a year. We have been admiring people who have a small business but we could not manage to have one due to luck of capital"

"The will meant having food on my table and it will meant having a good business. My husband has been in South Africa since 2020 looking for capital to start business, and he was expecting to come home permanently on this year. Due to covid 19 outbreak, he lost his job and ever since it has been me sending money to him. With this money, I will be able to buy food for the household and part of the money I will buy bus ticket for my husband."

"As a single mother, I had been living with my three children who have always given me hope of seeing another new day. They had been my motivation over the grocery businesses I had been running in the nearby market that have kept them in school, clothed, and also provided them their daily meal back home. On receiving the second transfer, I decided to spend $300 on obtaining a good breed of cow that is almost calving down at the moment. This will support me a great deal in raising school fees for the firstborn daughter who had just joined grade 9 in the nearby secondary school. I am glad that the school had been giving parents opportunities to pay school fees using both livestock and farm produce which in my case It will be of great help if I will get a chance to supply them with milk. With the remaining $200 I spent part of it on equipping my daughter with all the school requirements and the remaining on paying all her school fees as she joined."

"I had the utmost happiness in confirming the receipt of the first transfer. Alone in the house, I needed to celebrate with all the excitement I had, but the mixed reaction I had could not allow me. At first, I thought it could have been the fraud messages that had been circulating. I had to first visit the nearest Mpesa shop where I tried withdrawing a small amount to be sure whether it was real. On coming back, I was so happy and with the confidence of sharing the joy with my other household members."

"I depend on casual labor of charcoal vending to raise my family of 7 members. This activity requires me to wake up early every morning to walk to the forest for charcoal preparation. I had just arrived home after completing my morning work and preparing breakfast for the family. I heard a loud message notification on my phone upon checking it was the transfer GiveDirectly promised to send us during the enrollment stage. I felt very happy and I had to call my helper to confirm the receipt and we jointly celebrate receiving the transfer."

"I was at home relaxing when I saw a message on my phone, When I read the Message I was happy to learn that I had received money from GiveDirectly that early morning, I knew that this would be the beginning of great days to come, this was the only opportunity for me to improve my living standard, I was so overwhelmed with happiness, I then shared the news with my Sister in law, then thereafter when my children came home that evening we all celebrated the good news together."
