"I got pregnant when I was just 17 years old. This forced me to drop out of school at the sixth grade in primary school. Being so young, it was a challenge raising up the child alone. This forced me out of home to the urban area to look for a source of income. I am now married with two children and raising them is what has been my biggest hardship; given that I depend on my spouse who is employed as a shop keeper while I am jobless at home."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is food insecurity. I am a housewife and rely on my husband who depends on a charcoal burning business that earns him very little. Due to this, I have always been struggling to put food on the table. Sometimes, I am forced to seek help from relatives which is an annoying situation."

"When I was in high school , my parents did not have a job. That made me on and off of school because of the fee problem. That is what made my certificates remain at school Upto date. That is the biggest hardship I faced in life."

"The lack of a reliable source of income for my household is generally the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. I have all time desired to have a reliable source of income for our household but this has never been possible and my husband is doing some casual jobs that earn him utmost $5 per day, an income that doesn't fully cater to our needs. This has forced me to engage in very odd jobs like vending charcoal, a work that is energy-intensive and this has affected me health-wise since sometimes, I complain of chest pain."

"Receiving this money means self employment and food security for me. I am planning to complete my tailoring course which will cost us 20,000 Kenyan shillings. I will use a total of 50,000 Kenyan shillings to start my own tailoring business. This includes buying sewing machines, clothes and rent the premises for the business. Due to how laborious land cultivation is in this area, we are also planning to use 30,000 to buy a pair of cows and 10,000 Kenyan shillings to buy an ox drawn plough. This will enable us prepare our land in good time and in the shortest time possible hence getting land produce of high quality and quantity."

"My health has deteriorated due to sickness. I have been suffering from chronic ulcers since last year. I have visited several clinics without any success. This has hindered me from working and provide for my family's needs such as food. It is also expensive because I have to buy 1 dose at 3000 shillings which last for at least 1 month. Therefore, sickness is the biggest challenge I have faced."

"Securing a good job has been my challenge. I work at a charcoal vendor. This job is tiresome and requires a lot of time because I have to walk 20 kilometers away from my home. It also earns me 350 shillings in 4 days which is not enough to cater to all our basic needs such as school fees."
