Kahaso
received a $421 second payment.
"I have a goal that I would wish to accomplish shortly which is to start a retail shop business in my village. For now, I am jobless and I feel there is a need for me to start earning a living for the sake of my school-going children. Also, I believe that through the business, I will be able to fend for all my family's needs without struggling like I used to do."

"The main challenge is that I live alone. My wife left me four years ago. This hinders me from reaching to the development I want. I wish, I could get someone else to live with though we didn't divorce officially with my previous wife."

Kayumbe
received a second payment.
"My current priority is the education of my grandchildren. I decided to leave them education as an inheritance for the future because I don't have anything material they can inherit. I have been saving the meager money I earn from my occasional work for them, and even if it is insufficient, I am confident that God will find a way to help them."

David
received a $421 second payment.
"The second transfer helped me in building a two-roomed kitchen for my wife. The one we had initially was small and had an old iron sheet roof. Its walls were old too and made of mud. I spent $350 on building it. My daughters would sleep with us in the main house because the kitchen was so small and only my sons would sleep in it. I thank God my daughters have found a new spacious room to sleep in. I even added a ceiling board to make it better. My daughters will sleep in one room and my sons would sleep in another room. I also spent $800 on paying school fees for my daughter who is in college. Bought food, and school uniforms for my primary children too. I am a father of four. I do casual work, cattle keeping, and farming while my wife sells clothes. Thank you so much for the support"

Ali
received a $423 second payment.
"I am a subsistence farmer who is married and has seven children. After receiving my initial transfer, I considered purchasing a dairy cow to reduce the cost of purchasing milk on a daily basis. As a result, I spent $310 on a healthier dairy cow. I was unable to purchase one previously due to financial constraints, as my source of income is not consistent. I then applied In addition, I used the remaining funds to finish my house, which had previously been left half-finished due to a lack of funds. I am relieved and grateful for the significant accomplishment I accomplished in such a short period of time."

Francis
received a sixth payment.
"Being in a state of joblessness has always posed the challenge of raising money for my family's support. I had to bear with that situation before my enrollment in GiveDirectly's program. Therefore, with an assurance of a monthly transfer for this year, my main goal is to invest a portion of my transfers in poultry farming. It is a viable project that I can easily undertake while at home. From it, I am hopeful that I will be in a position to raise money for our nutritional needs, and also meet my medical expenses."

Rashid
received a $28 fourteenth payment.
"Despite the fact that I own a charcoal business, I believe it is insufficient to support my family. I set a goal for myself at the beginning of this year to save money in order to start a retail shop. Because my wife is a fashion designer and works at home, I believe she can manage both the shop and the tailoring business. This course will diversify our income sources, enabling us to easily meet the needs of our family. It is difficult and inconvenient to rely solely on one source of income. This was a goal I set for myself last year, but it did not come to pass."

Sylvia
received a $28 fourteenth payment.
"Because the charcoal burning business is strenuous, I have been looking for an alternative source of income. With the security of a monthly transfer, I have a goal of starting a business dealing with the sale of second-hand clothes. Every month, I have set a goal of saving $20. As a result, I will have sufficient capital by the end of the year to venture into that business. I will be able to support my family and my husband's land purchase plan with the proceeds from the business. The current parcel in which we are living is not ours, and we are afraid that the owners may send us away even though we have lived here for a while."

Evaline
received a $423 second payment.
"Nothing beats the joy we had when we received the transfers. It was the highest moment of our lives. We have lived a life full of misery and destitution. Our house was in bad shape and we were in dire need of a better house. Receiving the transfers enabled us to build a decent iron sheet roofed house, it was a dream that had eluded us for so long because we did not have enough money. We also used part of the money to purchase a dairy cow that is now producing enough milk for our 8 children."

Prizila
received a second payment.
"When I got the second transfer, I was working on a construction project. Initially, I intended to build a mud-walled house with iron sheets as a roof, but after receiving the second transfer, I changed my mind and decided to plaster the walls, necessitating the purchase of cement and sand. I spent $250 on construction materials for the exterior finishing and another $3 on labor charges. I am grateful that the construction is now complete and that my family of five can use it. I also had a secondary school son, and I paid $250 to settle all arrears and the current term's fees. He had been studying in peace since no one had sent him home to collect the money. Previously, I relied on the infrequent sale of firewood to nearby restaurants and food kiosks, but because most of the villagers are in the same business, finding an opportunity to supply has been difficult. At the moment, I mostly rely on casual labor, visiting people's homes and farms for a small amount of money. I am grateful for the support I received from GiveDirectly, which made a lot of things easier and resulted in a lot of change in our household."
