Paul
received a $421 second payment.
"I am residing in a tiny one-roomed house with my spouse and 5 children. It was not enough to accommodate all of us and the household items. My grown-up daughters of ages between 15 to 20 years had to seek shelter from our neighbours every night which distressed me a lot. After receiving the first transfer, I had begun building a new and spacious house but was yet to finish. I used $150 of the recent transfer to complete the construction and now I am glad to own a decent house like others in the village. In addition, I spent $200 to support the education of my firstborn daughter who is in form four by clearing the arrears and paying part of the term one fee. Lastly, I used the remaining amount to fence our farm since the maize crops were constantly being destroyed by livestock from the neighbouring home."

"The challenges I am currently facing are, poverty which has made everything had forexample children have started school but we have not paid any single coin for them and this worries me alot because I am not even sure when I will get money to pay for their school fees.
Another challenge I am facing is drought, evrything i planted didn't grow, my cabbages in the next garden there have all died up from the garden. It's true when it rains we have landslides but atleast during rainy season we have plenty and enough food for our children,no one starves."

"Since I am an old woman, I fall sick every now and then, hypertension is the biggest challenge since 2012 yet its very expensive to get the treatment. Poverty is a leading challenge too .This has made life harder, I can't afford treatment, not even a balanced diet for my health.
My bad health has stopped me from doing my business that i was doing years ago to provide for myself."

Joan
received a $421 second payment.
"My goal this year is to open a green groceries shop in the nearby market. Since I am a dairy farmer, I am planning to save some money that I earn from selling milk towards this project. Achieving this means more financial independence and a better life for my family."

received a $436 second payment.
"In my perspective, GiveDirectly succeeds admirably by providing financial support. I feel a little bit of pride and pleasure when I consider what I've been able to accomplish as a person. Everything I was able to do has significantly changed my life. To me and everyone else I am aware of, all of them have brought a great deal of satisfaction. There is nothing that GiveDirectly could do better, in my opinion. Everything was carried out well."

Kabibi
received a $421 second payment.
"When I received the second transfer, my top objective was to pay off a debt of $140 that I accumulated as a result of sending my spouse off in style. I needed to pay off my obligations as quickly as I could because I had borrowed some money from friends. After paying off the loan, I was glad and relieved because I had been worried about how I would be able to repay them. After that, I spent $150 to take my sick child to the hospital. I am currently relieved that he is doing well. For an additional $80, I purchased a mattress because I was sleeping on a mat and lacked one. I preserved the remainder for the support of my family."

received a $421 second payment.
"I decided to build a brand-new, roomy house after getting the second transfer. This is due to the fact that the one I had was incredibly compact and, despite its compact size, served multiple purposes. I also utilized it as a store and a kitchen. I spent $325 building a large house, leaving the tiny one to serve as a kitchen and a store. I currently lead a really happy life because it is comfy. After cooking, I'm no longer as bothered by smoke as I once was, when I used to linger outside the home until quite late at night to let the smoke subsist before going to bed. As I had a bed without any bedding, I also spent $50 on a mattress. Thereafter, I made a food purchase with the balance."

"Givedirectly performs a good job of accepting all households without restriction into their program. Providing assistance in the form of unrestricted cash was a fantastic and novel choice. The officers were also very courteous and professional throughout the enrolling process. According to me, everything went smoothly and there was nothing they could have done better."

Isaack
received a $421 second payment.
"Before I was enrolled in the program, I had no reliable job and I used to work as a casual for my brother who owns and operates a power saw machine. I used to earn a daily wage of $2 and this could only afford two meals a day for my family of four children. Since I didn't have a decent house nor did I own any domestic animals, I spend my first transfer to build decent muddy walled two bedroom house and bought dairy calf . For the second transfer, I spend $520 to buy a second hand motorbike taxi and the balance to buy food. After purchasing the motorbike, I secured a job in the city as a delivery guy that pays me $400 per month. I am now able to provide three meals per day for my family and I took my children to good private schools. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for changing my life and that of my family and I will forever be grateful."

Matilda
received a $421 second payment.
"Owning a piece of land is the goal that I have at the moment. I am planning to purchase two acres of land in the coming year and beyond. This is because we are living in a place that does not belong to us and we lack the right over it. The owners have always threatened to send us away so that they could sell it. I am planning to save enough money from the profit that I make on daily basis to achieve this ambition and live a comfortable life."
