"According to my opinion, what Give Directly does so well is that they give out unconditional transfers, different people have different needs, and we have the freedom how to spend the transfers so long as it is something that does not harm us together with community members. The transfers are given in lump sum amounts and this helps in planning purposes in terms of the developments that we would wish to engage in at a personal level. Unlike other projects where it is given in small amounts. To avoid household conflict, what needs to be done differently is enrolling all the individuals in the household. During enrollment, those individuals who did not have responsibilities by then were left out of the program yet these are the same people who steal from their old and vulnerable parents. Another thing that needs to be done differently is enrolling all the communities in a specific village for uniformity purposes and this will prevent too many complaints coming from the communities that are left out during the registration to the programs"

"I am a parent of five children. Two are in Secondary School, a boy and a girl, while the other is in college studying Information Technology in his first year. I used a total of kshs 20,000 to clear their school fees arrears that have accumulated for the past year. Before the transfers, I was living in a small grass-thatched house and it could not fit all my family members. The boys used to sleep in my neighbour's house and this was so inconvenient as they could go so early due to insecurity in my community as most homes do not have access to electricity. I used the remaining part of the transfers of kshs 30,000 to build a spacious decent house for my family. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly transfers."

"I spent almost $150 of my second transfer on purchasing more building materials so that I could finish putting up my house. I aimed to build a new one because the current one could leak terribly beside it being very small. There was no space to store some of my properties and I had to keep them under a very risky tree. As a result, I used to experience loss and damage, especially during the rainy seasons. To add to that, I bought three goats for a total of $150. I settled for them because they can thrive so well in my region also they reproduce very fast as compared to the other domestic animals. I went ahead and bought new bedding. For years, I have been sleeping on old mats with lots of discomforts every evening. I am happy that this has finally come to an end. Additionally, I had to buy a solar panel which cost $80. I will no longer struggle like before especially at night since most of the time I have been staying in the dark. Also, I paid fees for my granddaughter in secondary school so that she could sit for her end-of-year exam. With the remaining amount of money, I bought food and other household items."

"Shortages of sustainable livestock feeds were my undoing for dairy farming. To arrest this challenge I decided to plant Napier grass and grass for my cows. It was until when I received the second transfer that I choose to buy a chuff cuter worth KES 48000 to enable me to manufacture silage for my livestock. This machine made my work seamless unlike before when I was doing it manually. I am grateful that it takes me a short time to make enough feeds for my cows. Now I can produce up to five liters of milk daily which is a milestone for me and my family. Being a champion of education, I also considered buying my children story books and school uniforms. This will enhance the quality of education for my children."

"I am happy with GiveDirectly's transparency during enrollment. They gave everyone equal chance to benefit from the program. We are now seeing the impact, people build houses, and other people bought food and livestock. However, other people who never qualified should also be considered."

"Selling kerosene in my hometown is my new goal which I hope that I would accomplish very soon. After doing my research I discovered that this is one of the most lucrative businesses that we have. Therefore once I will acquire good capital I believe that my life will continue to change positively. For now, I am jobless, therefore meeting the family's needs has been a struggle."
