"I recently started a new business on bags which I get locally from Uhuru market as an extra source of income. I started with just a small number of bags to test out the markets and see if it was a business worth venturing into. Having seen how good the business is, I have decided to invest most of my upcoming transfers in it by buying more stock as a way of expanding it."

"My life is currently different in that I live a better life because I have a dairy cow. I [produce milk that has improved my children's health. They consume part of the milk and sell the rest in order to buy other household necessities, mainly foodstuffs. Initially, I would not find milk to buy as all my neighbors preseed selling all their milk to a processing plant rather than individuals like me. They do so because of better prices at the processing plant. I am now part of them reaping from the high prices."

"I have had an easy time paying for my daughter's school fees since I was enrolled in the project and this has enabled her to stay in school full time. Before the project, she would mostly be sent home due to delayed fee payments which really affected her studies because she missed a lot during the times she spent at home. This was mostly caused by my inability to raise the money to pay the fees on time due to my low income."

"My life is different than it would have been if never I received the transfer in that I have built a house and bought a dairy cow. "My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I have built a house. We used to live in a small house with my family and I had always wished to build a better one but because I did not have money it was so hard for me. Currently, we lived in a decent and spacious house."

"I used part of my most recent transfer to pay my rent for the month as I usually do each month whenever I receive the transfers to avoid issues with my landlord. I then gave part of it to my wife who is currently unemployed so that she could take care of her personal needs, repaid a loan I took from the local mobile money services then spent the rest on foodstuff and other household requirements."

Richard received a $546 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have built a better house for my family. We used to live in a small grass-thatched house that could not host all of us comfortably. I depend on the casual jobs in the village and the amount of money that I could get was not enough to gather for the basic needs and at the same time save to build a house. My children could spend night neighbor's house and this was so risky because of the movement at night. Currently, I have built a better and spacious house for the family and we no longer have a problem of being rained on and the cold at night, My children no longer spend nights away from home because they have room to sleep. I am so happy because our living standard has changed to be better."
