Margaret received a $253 second payment.
"In the next six months, I know I will have bought the cow. GD has really eased my financial burdens through the transfers. I used the first transfer on paying back the debts I had and also to keep up with paying school fees for my children. I also used the second transfer on buying farm input such as fertilizer and hybrid seed which has increased my harvest from 3 sacks to 8 sacks. Whenever I have a financial crisis, I can sell part of my harvest to solve the issue and as a result of these, I know the small income I get from my casual work and other sources such as farming, I know I will be having a cow in the next six months."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I was not in a position to buy a dairy cow as well as save enough to pay school fees for my children who joined college. I am so happy because it was made possible when I received the money."

"My biggest expectation is to be able to join college and take up a course of my choice, but that seems to be impossible at the moment because of my family's inability to raise the fees. As I wait for the right time when I will get a scholarship or a wellwisher to pay my college fees, I will look for a job to help me support my family which I hope I will have achieved in the next six months."

"My life has greatly changed since I received my first transfer. It is always my happiness to see my family happy and healthy thus I always struggle to put a meal on the table and bring in more assets that we can lean on as a family during hard times. When I received my first transfer from GiveDirectly, I bought a cow using part of it. I look at it as an added asset and I believe soon it will calve thus give us milk for both household consumption and sales. I am happy that this has given me a peaceful mind in that It has reduced my thinking of what to lean on in case of a financial crisis. I feel empowered as a single mother to bring up my family and I thank GiveDirectly."

"Were it not for GiveDirectly, I would not have become a dairy farmer in an instant. I am so happy that I was able to establish an income-generating activity. I also invested some in maize farming. The crop is doing so well and I expect to make an income after harvesting and selling it. I am also happy that I have a television set that keeps me informed on international and national news. I am so proud because I am ar a pint where I can inform my neighbors of currently developing stories. I am the man on the know now!"

"I have invested in farming and currently have crops on the farm which are about to mature and a heifer about to calve. In the next six months, I expect a better life in that I will have a reap from my farming. I will have harvested my maize and my cow will have calved thus will have enough food for my family. I expected to be saving money that I could have spent on my household basic needs as I currently do."
