"Comparing my current life with the one I could be living without the transfers, I can boldly say that there are great positive changes that came in. Right from livestock to the clearance of school fees is just a blessing to our household."

received a $527 second payment.
"Comparing my current life with how it would have been without the transfer, there is really a great difference. The two businesses sI started are really doing quite well, earning us income - something which I had never experienced before. Currently, I am no longer doing the casual labor I was always working on and I am grateful that I can also afford to hire some people to wok in my businesses."

"With the current projects which I have started, I have witnessed a lot of differences in my life. School fees clearance has been a motivating factor and I believe that once I manage to put up a house in my own home I believe my life will definitely change and I will leave a peaceful life as compared to now."

"I expect to have received a lump sum from the joined merry go round in the next six months. I had joined a merry go round with an aim to save money to facilitate the construction of a new house. Upon receiving it I will start the construction which I see happening soon thus I am hopeful that I will have either completed it or almost completing it in the next six months."

Ivyne
received a $527 second payment.
"I started a big cosmetics shop in a nearby shopping center. For .along time, I wanted to run this business because I really believed in it. I however did not have capital to start it. I was only counting on my saving schemes in the village but his had not taken me and close to my dream. It was only with the GiveDirectly transfer that I was able to open the shop and stocked it. From the business, I get a profit of about KES 600 per day. This last transfer made the biggest difference in my life."

Salma
received a $527 second payment.
"Had it not been for the financial support which I received from GiveDirectly, I would still be sheltering in my old house which was weak and its roof dilapidated. As of now, I managed to construct a decent iron-roofed house which has changed my life. I feel happy living in a decent place with no worries about any weather change. Besides that, I am training to be a tailor. Purchasing a sewing machine using the transfer is a big step towards achieving this dream. Soon, I will open my own tailoring shop that will be my main source of income. I have also saved a portion of the money to help my husband start a carpentry workshop. Our family goals come first and through this business, we are hoping to achieve even more goals."

David
received a $527 second payment.
"The biggest difference in my life was the school fees issue that I was able to clear, I had two chidlren who needed urgent payment of school fees to allow them to move to the next level. HE was to sit for his final exam without clearing with the finance. I am so glad that he finished school fees and he is now on the job market looking for a job. I know that he will secure a job. These are my hopes that have become a reality because of the transfers."

"Unguaranteed and unreliable menial jobs that i usually engage myself in eg. Fencing and cultivating people's farms is the biggest hardship i face. Whenever i manage to secure work to do, i latter spend all the wages i earn to buy food for my family. This is the reason why i am lagging behind in terms of setting up income generating activities that would have enabled me to support my family needs with less struggle"

Geofrey
received a $253 second payment.
"Running a shop is one of my biggest expectations in the next six months. I plan to have established a shop business. Income from this is going to be helpful as soon as my children join secondary schools. I am trying to make sure that I get this shop to ensure a stable income because, after this year, my financial needs are going to be bigger with my firstborn child joining a secondary school."

"Lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. Imagine taking care of my 9 children single-handedly since the death of my husband 10 years ago. It has been a difficult life and the only job I know is to make and sell charcoal, a job that is strenuous and low paying, say $4 per sack. My children has been sent out of school due to lack of school fees and currently my elder daughter is still at home despite scoring 285 marks in the 2019 KCPE. This has been a pain to me but I am glad to learn that my life will change soon with the help from GiveDirectly."
