"What I plan to do with the cash transfer is to start a business which I have always dreamed of and used the profit on my granddaughter education.
The only means of survival for me and my granddaughter is the little farming I do and through that I'm able to put bread on our table and pay her school fees. I lost my son who was helping me with almost everything leaving me with his daughter. I now have to get myself involved into farming as a means of survival."

"The over all hardship I am facing currently is financial hardship. My family has no source of income as such, financial hardship is an every day encounter. I am a farmer and due to the low yield of my farm products many harvest seasons, i am unable to generate sufficient money to handle the needs of the family. Many days , my family consumes what is available and not what we want due to little or no income. Moreover, my kids frown at me during festivals because they can't eat the type of dish other families eat neither do they wear the kind of outting their friends wear."

"I spent KES 14,000 to purchase two lorries of sandy and of building stone this was for the construction of a new decent bricks house that I had already started earlier before the transfer. The house that I had was about collapsed, I was always afraid that it may fall anytime. I also purchased 4 goats for KES 10,500 this was for boosting my goats rearing. I save the remaining amount to help me in the construction of my new house. I am planning to obtain cement and paying labour costs."

Mwenda
received a $497 initial payment.
"I spent KES 25,000 to clear the debt that I had borrowed from my neighbors to support my child education who was joining secondary school. This is because my job of charcoal burning could not earn me enough income to support his education. In addition, I used KES 14,200 to purchase beddings for my family since we were spending our nights on the floor using sacks as beddings. It was shameful whenever we received guests but I did not have money to purchase proper beddings. Furthermore, I bought 2 more goats to boost my reliable source of income for my family. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing clothes for the family members."
