"In all my life, the most thing that I have been desiring is to build a house. When I received my first transfer, I focused on getting things ready for house construction. I moulded bricks and burnt them. I also bought 22 iron sheets. I am just waiting for my second transfer to start building a house. I also bought beddings such as Mattress and blackects. I have also been struggling to find food and I managed to buy 5 bags of maize. I also paid school fees for my child who is schooling at a secondary school at Ulongwe. Part of the money was used to buy a bicycle to ease movement."

"Because of persistent drought that is often witnessed in this area, getting safe water is not easy. I cover 2.5 kilometers in search of water every morning and because I do not own a donkey I have to carry it on my back using a 20-liter Jerrican. My homestead is situated in a hilly place and making uphill trips while carrying water on your back is a strenuous exercise for an old woman like myself."

"I used to be a truck driver but lost the job when the truck broke down and the owner was unable to service it. After 1 year of job hunting with no success, I decided to come back home with my family to cut on expenses associated with living in urban centers. I resolved to start carrying out casual jobs like doing farm work on other people's farms to fend for my family. I usually get an average of KES 250 per day and this amount is inadequate to exhaustively cater for our basic needs."

"Receiving this money means that I will finally own a dairy cattle. We have a small baby who requires milk on a daily basis and so I have to buy 2 litres of milk at KES 50 per litre. Having no regular source of income, shelving this amount daily is an uphill task. I am a casual mason earning approximately KES 300 per day. This amount is insufficient to exhaustively cater for all our needs. I intend to use KES 40000 to buy one dairy cattle so as to supplement my family with milk. I will then use the remaining amount of my transfer to construct a spacious house and clear the remaining school fee balance."

"Receiving this money means a better future for me. I am passionate about teaching and I graduated with a certificate in primary education in 2020 and now working under casual terms as a mathematics teacher in a nearby private primary school. I earn a meagre salary of KES 8,500 which is hardly enough to cater for food and other expenses at the same time support my brother who is in university. I want to further my education up to undergraduate level so that I can get better employment opportunities and more salary. I am excited because the transfers I will receive from Givedirectly will enable me pursue my career goals by enrolling for a diploma I primary education course with the first cash transfer."

"The challenge that I am facing now is having someone to look after our home and plan for everything. I go to work early in the morning and arrive late in the night. I do not have time to tend to the crops that are on the farm and also to look after our cows. I constantly worry about this and pray every day that I will reconcile with my family and have everything in order."
